4738 - Al-Hasan ibn Ya'qub and Ibrahim ibn Ismat al-Adalan both said: Al-Sari ibn Khuzaymah narrated to us, saying: Ma'li ibn Rashid narrated to us, saying: Wahib ibn Khalid narrated to us, from Ja'far ibn Muhammad, from his father, from Ali ibn al-Husayn, that Umar ibn al-Khattab (r) proposed marriage to Ali (r) for Umm Kulthum, saying: "Marry her to me." Ali replied: "I am intending her for my nephew, Abdullah ibn Ja'far." Umar said: "Marry her to me, for by Allah, there is no one among the people who is observing her matter as closely as I am." So Ali married her to him. Then Umar went to the emigrants and said: "Will you not congratulate me?" They said: "With whom, O Commander of the Faithful?" He replied: "With Umm Kulthum, the daughter of Ali and Fatimah, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah (p)." "I heard the Messenger of Allah (p) say: 'Every kinship and connection will be severed on the Day of Resurrection, except for that which is from my kinship and connection.'" So I wanted there to be a bond between me and the Messenger of Allah (p). This is a hadith with a sound chain of narration, and they did not narrate it.

- .... Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him and his father) said: Safiyya bint Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with her) lost her son and wept for him. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said to her: "Are you weeping, O Aunt, for one whose child has died in Islam? He will have a house in Paradise to dwell in." When she went out, a man met her and said to her: "The relatives of Muhammad will not avail you anything before Allah." She wept, and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) heard her voice and was alarmed by it. He went out and (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) was honoring her, treating her well, and loving her. He said to her: "O Aunt, are you weeping after I told you what I did?" She replied: "That is not what made me weep," and she informed him of what the man had said. He (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) became angry and said: "O Bilal, announce the prayer!" So he did. Then he (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) stood up, praised Allah, and exalted Him, and said: "What is the matter with some people who claim that my relatives are of no benefit? Every bond and lineage will be severed on the Day of Resurrection, except for my bond and lineage, and my kinship will remain connected in this world and the Hereafter."
