Volume: (1) - Page Number: (284)
928 - Ahmad narrated to us, who said: Sa'id narrated to us, from Ubad ibn al-Awwam, from Sufyan ibn Husayn, from al-Hakam, from Muqasim
from Ibn Abbas that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny)
sent Abu Bakr and instructed him to announce these words, then followed him with Ali. While Abu Bakr was in one of the pathways, he heard the bleating of the she-camel of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny). Abu Bakr then came out, frightened, and assumed it was the Messenger of Allah. Instead, it was Ali, and he handed him the letter of the Messenger of Allah. He appointed him over the pilgrimage (hajj) and instructed Ali to announce these words. So they both set out and performed hajj. Ali stood on the Days of Tashreeq and called out: "The covenant of Allah and the covenant of His Messenger is free from every polytheist. Travel freely in the land for four months, and no polytheist shall perform hajj after this year, nor circumambulate the House naked, nor enter Paradise except a believer." Ali continued to call out these words, and suddenly Abu Huraira stood up and began to proclaim them as well.
