- Ahmad ibn Ishaq narrated to us, who said: Abu Ahmad narrated to us, who said: Israel narrated to us, from Abu Ishaq from Zayd ibn Yath'i who said: Surah At-Tawbah was revealed, and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) sent Abu Bakr with it. Then he sent Ali, and he took it from him. When Abu Bakr returned, he said: "Did anything new be revealed?" He replied: "No, but I was commanded to convey it, either myself or a man from my Ahlul Bayt." So he went to Mecca and stood among them, proclaiming four things: that no polytheist should enter Mecca after this year, nor should anyone perform tawaf around the Kaaba naked, and that no one should enter Paradise except a Muslim soul, and whoever had a covenant between himself and the Messenger of Allah, his covenant was to remain in effect until its term."

- Ibn Waki' narrated to us, who said: Abu Usamah narrated to us, from Zakariya, from Abu Ishaq, from Zayd ibn Yath'i from Ali, who said: The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) sent me when Surah Barah (Surah at-Tawbah) was revealed with four commands: that no one naked should perform Tawaf around the House (Kaaba), that no polytheist should approach the Sacred Mosque (Masjid al-Haram) after this year of theirs, and that whoever had a treaty with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) could continue to its duration, and that no one would enter Paradise except for a Muslim soul. Ibn Waki' narrated to us, who said: Ibn Abd al-A'la narrated to us, from Ma'mar, from Abu Ishaq, from al-Harith, from Ali (may Allah be pleased with him and revered), who said: I was sent to the people of Mecca with four commands, and then he mentioned the rest of the hadith.

- Ibrahim ibn Sa'id al-Juhari said: Ibrahim ibn Sa'id al-Juhari narrated to us, saying: Hussain ibn Muhammad narrated to us, saying: Sulayman ibn Qarm narrated to us, from al-A'mash, from al-Hakam, from Muqsim from Ibn Abbas, that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) sent Abu Bakr with Surah At-Tawbah (Barat) and then followed him with Ali, who took it from him. Abu Bakr (may he be pleased with him) said: "O Messenger of Allah, is there something new?" He replied: "No, you are my companion in the cave and by the pond, and none will convey my message except me or Ali." What Ali was sent with included four things: no soul shall enter Paradise except a Muslim soul, no one may perform Hajj after this year who is a polytheist, no one may circumambulate the Ka'bah naked, and whoever is between himself and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) has a covenant, it is until its term.

- Ibn Humayd narrated to us, who said: Salamah narrated to us, who said: Muhammad ibn Ishaq narrated to us from Hakim ibn Hakim ibn Ibad ibn Hanif from Abu Ja'far Muhammad ibn Ali ibn Husayn ibn Ali, who said: When Surah Barakah (At-Tawbah) was revealed to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), and he had sent Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) to perform the Hajj for the people, it was said to him: O Messenger of Allah, why not send to Abu Bakr? He said: Only a man from my household will carry out my duties. Then he called Ali ibn Abi Talib (peace be upon him) and said: Take this scroll from the beginning of Surah Barakah and announce to the people on the Day of Nahr when they have gathered at Mina: No disbeliever will enter Paradise, no polytheist will perform Hajj after this year, and no one will circumambulate the House naked. Whoever has a covenant with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) is bound to its duration. So Ali ibn Abi Talib (peace be upon him) set out on the she-camel of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), al-Adhbā, until he caught up with Abu Bakr al-Siddiq on the way. When Abu Bakr saw him, he said: Is he an emir or one under command? He said: One under command. Then they both proceeded (may Allah be pleased with them), and Abu Bakr continued to lead the people in Hajj while the Arabs were in that year at their places of worship as they had been in the pre-Islamic era. Until when the Day of Nahr came, Ali ibn Abi Talib (peace be upon him) stood up and announced to the people what the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) had commanded him, saying: O people, no soul will enter Paradise except a Muslim one, no polytheist will perform Hajj after this year, and no one will circumambulate the House naked. Whoever has a covenant with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) is bound to its duration. Thus, after that year, no polytheist performed Hajj, and no one circumambulated the House naked. Then they returned to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), and this was part of the message of Surah Barakah regarding those who were among the polytheists of the people of the general covenant and those bound to the specified term.
