- Abu al-Barakat Umar ibn Ibrahim narrated to us, saying: Abu al-Faraj Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Allaan narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ja'far, from Muhammad ibn al-Qasim ibn Zakariya, from Ibad ibn Ya'qub, from Abu Abd al-Rahman al-Asma'i, from Kathir al-Nawa, from Jami' ibn Umayr, from Ibn Umar, who said: I was in the mosque of the city when I said to him, "Tell me about Ali." So he showed me his place, by the places of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), and then said: "I will tell you about Ali." I replied, "Yes." He continued: "Indeed, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) sent Abu Bakr with the book, then sent Ali after him, and he took it, saying, 'What is it with you, O Ali? Is something being revealed?' Ali replied, 'No.'" So Abu Bakr returned to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) and said, "O Messenger of Allah, is something being revealed?" He said, 'No, but he is only delivering on my behalf, I or a man from my family, and Ali is a man from my family.'
