- Abu al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Wahid narrated from the righteous shaykh Umar ibn al-Zughbi, who said: I was in i'tikaf in the city of Medina, may Allah be pleased with her, with the Blessed Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him and his holy progeny, overlooking her, in the best of prayers and peace, and I went out on the day of Ashura, when the Imami community gathers in the dome of Abbas. They had gathered in the dome, and he said: I stood at the door of the dome and said, "I want something in love of Abu Bakr." An elderly man from among them came out to me and said, "Sit until we finish, and we will give you." So, I sat until they finished, then that man came out, took me by the hand, and led me to his home. He brought me into the house, closed the door behind me, and turned (ع) two men against me, binding my hands and beating me until I was in pain. Then he commanded them to cut out my tongue, and they did so. Then he ordered them to unbind my shoulders and said, "Go out to what you requested in his love, and let him restore your tongue to you." So, I went out from him to the noble, holy chamber, weeping from the intense pain and suffering.
I said to myself, "O Messenger of Allah, you surely know what has befallen me in love of Abu Bakr. If your companion is truly deserving, I would like him to return my tongue to me." I spent the night in the chamber, restless from the severity of the pain. A light sleep overcame me, and I dreamed that my tongue had returned to its original state. I woke up and found it perfectly healthy, as it was, and I was able to speak. I said, "Praise be to Allah who has restored my tongue to me," and my love for Abu Bakr (r) increased. So, when the second year came on the day of Ashura, they gathered as usual, and I went out to the door of the dome and said, "I want a dinar in love of Abu Bakr." A young man from among those present stood up and said to me, "Sit until we finish." So, I sat, and when they finished, the young man came to me, took my hand, and led me to that same house. He brought me inside and placed food before me. When we finished, the young man stood up, opened a door onto a room in the house, and began to cry. I stood up to see what was causing his tears and saw a monkey tied up in the room. I asked him about its situation, and he cried more. I calmed him until he settled down and said to him, "By Allah, tell me about your condition." He replied, "If you swear not to tell anyone in the city, I will tell you." So, I swore to him, and he said, "Know that a man came to us last year and asked for something in love of Abu Bakr (r) in the dome of Abbas on the day of Ashura. My father, who was one of the elder Imami and Shiite, stood up to him and said, 'Sit until we finish.' When they finished, he brought him to this house and turned two servants against him, and they beat him. He ordered them to cut out his tongue, and they did so, and then he sent him away. We did not know any news of him." When night fell and we were asleep, my father let out a tremendous scream. We awoke from the intensity of his scream and found him transformed by Allah into a monkey. We were frightened of him, so we brought him to this room, tied him up, and pretended to the people that he had died. Here we are, mourning him morning and evening." I said to him, "If you see the one your father cut the tongue of, will you recognize him?" He replied, "No, by Allah." I said, "I am he, by Allah! I am the one your father cut the tongue of." I narrated the story to him, and he fell upon me, kissing my head and hands. Then he gave me a robe and a dinar and asked me how Allah had restored my tongue. I told him, and I returned.
