- Sheikh al-Hafiz Abu Bakr Ahmad ibn Ali ibn Thabit al-Khatib al-Baghdadi said: Al-Nasr ibn Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn al-Ruqaqi narrated to us, saying: Isma'il ibn Ali al-Khatbi narrated to me, from Abdullah ibn Ahmad ibn Hanbal, who said: My father narrated to me, from Yazid ibn Harun, from Asim al-Ahwal who reported from al-Sha'bi, who said: Abu Bakr was asked about al-Kalalah, and he replied: "I will speak about it based on my opinion. If it is correct, it is from Allah, and if it is wrong, it is from me and from Satan," indicating, I believe, what excludes both son and father. When Umar was appointed as caliph, he said: "I am indeed shy before Allah to oppose anything Abu Bakr said."

30691 - From al-Sha'bi, who said: Abu Bakr was asked about kahlalah, and he said: "I will speak about it based on my opinion. If it is correct, then it is from God alone, without any partner. And if it is wrong, then it is from me and from Satan, and God is innocent of it." He understood it to mean everything except a parent and child. So when Umar was appointed as his successor, he said: "Kahlalah is anything other than a child," - and in another narration: "one who has no child." When Umar was mortally wounded, he said: "I would be ashamed before God to oppose Abu Bakr. I believe that kahlalah is what is except for a parent and child."
