- .... (Benefit): Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) died from an illness of tuberculosis, as stated by al-Zubair ibn Bakkar, and according to al-Waqidi, he bathed on a cold day and had a fever for fifteen days. It is also said that the Jews rather poisoned him in a harira (a type of soup) or something else, which is more accurate. He passed away eight days before the end of Jumada al-Thani in the year thirteen of the Hijrah, making his caliphate last two years, three months, and a few days, although some say otherwise.

Both he and al-Harith ibn Kalda ate it, but al-Harith stopped eating and said to Abu Bakr: "We have eaten food that is poisoned, a poison of the year."...

They said that the cause of his death was that the Jews poisoned him in a cedar tree, and it is said in a bundle of twigs. Al-Harith ibn Kulayd also took some of it and then stopped. He said to Abu Bakr: "You have eaten poisoned food; you will die in a year," and he died after a year, having been ill for fifteen days. It was said to him: "Would you not send for a doctor?" He replied: "He has already seen me." They asked: "What did he say to you?" He said: "I will do what I wish."
