11993 - And from Shqiq, who said: Abdul Rahman ibn Awf met Al-Walid ibn Uqbah, and Al-Walid said to him: "What is it with you that I see you have become distant from the Commander of the Faithful, Uthman?" He replied: "Tell him that I did not flee on the Day of Ain al-Tamr." Al-Walid then said: "Asim did on the Day of Uhud, and I did not remain behind in Badr, nor did I neglect the Sunnah of Umar." So he went and informed Uthman of this. Uthman then said: "As for his statement that I did not flee on the Day of Ain al-Tamr, how can he reproach me with a sin that Allah has forgiven?" He continued: {Indeed, those who turned back among you on the day when the two armies met were only caused to stumble by Satan because of some of what they had earned, and Allah had certainly forgiven them. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Forbearing} (Al-Imran 3:155). "And regarding his claim that I stayed behind on the Day of Badr, I was indeed nursing Ruqayyah, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), until she died, and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) had assigned me a share. Anyone for whom the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) assigned a share has indeed witnessed (the battle)." As for his statement that I did not neglect the Sunnah of Umar, I cannot bear it, nor can he." He related this to him. Ahmad, Abu Ya'la, and al-Tabarani narrated it with brevity, and al-Bazzar narrated it in full, similarly. It includes Asim ibn Abi al-Najud, who is of good narration, and the rest of its narrators are trustworthy.

14514 - Al-Shuqayq said: Abd al-Rahman ibn Awf encountered al-Walid ibn Uqbah, and al-Walid said to him, "Why do I see you being distant with the Commander of the Faithful, Uthman?" He replied, "Tell him from me that I did not flee on the Day of Aynayn." Al-Walid said, "But [he was] in 'Asim on the Day of Uhud," and "I did not neglect the Battle of Badr," and "I did not abandon the Sunnah of Umar." So al-Walid went and informed Uthman of this. Uthman then said, "As for his statement, 'I did not flee on the Day of Aynayn,' how can he reproach me with a sin that Allah has forgiven?" Allah, the Almighty, said: {Indeed, those who turned back among you on the day when the two armies met, it was only Satan who caused them to slip because of some of what they had earned, and Allah had certainly forgiven them. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Forbearing (Surah Al-Imran 3:155)} "And as for his statement, 'I did not neglect the Battle of Badr,' I was indeed tending to Ruqayyah, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), in her illness until she died. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) had assigned me a share, and whoever the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) assigned a share to had certainly witnessed [that battle]." "And as for his statement, 'I did not leave the Sunnah of Umar,' I cannot bear it, neither can he." So he informed him of that. Ahmad, Abu Ya'la, and al-Tabarani narrated it with brevity, and al-Bazzar narrated it in full, similarly, and it includes Asim ibn Bahdalah, who is of sound narration, and the rest of the men are trustworthy.

14519 - On the authority of Sa'id ibn al-Musayyib, who said: Uthman raised his voice over Abd al-Rahman ibn Awf and said to him: "Why do you raise your voice against me when you witnessed Badr and I did not? And you pledged allegiance to the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) while I did not? And you fled on the Day of Uhud while I did not?" Uthman replied to him: "As for your claim that you witnessed Badr and I did not, the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) left me in charge of his daughter and struck me with a share and gave me my wages. And as for your statement that you pledged allegiance to the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) while I did not, the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) sent me to some people from the polytheists, and you know this. When I delayed, he struck his right hand with his left and said: 'This is for Uthman ibn Affan.' The left hand of the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) is better than my right." And as for your claim that I fled on the Day of Uhud while you did not, indeed, Allah, Blessed and Exalted, said: {“Surely, those who turned away among you on the day when the two armies met were only led astray by Satan because of some of what they had earned, and Allah had surely forgiven them. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving, Forbearing”} (Surah Al-Imran 3:155) And Allah has indeed forgiven them, so do not blame me for a sin that Allah has forgiven.” This was narrated by al-Bazzar, and its chain is good. There are other reports that have preceded this one in this chapter and others.

14675 - Al-'Ala' ibn al-'Arar narrated that he said: Ibn Umar was asked about Ali and Uthman, and he replied: "As for Ali, do not ask about him. Look at his position with the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) and how he blocked our doors in the mosque and accepted his door As for Uthman, he committed a grave sin on the day the two armies met, but Allah forgave him. He committed a sin among you that was lesser than that, and you killed him." This was narrated by al-Tabarani in al-Awsat, and in it are some whom I do not recognize.
