- .... Umar narrated to me, who said: Abu al-Hasan narrated to us, who said: Abu Layla narrated to us, from Abu Ukasha al-Hamdhani, from Rafaa al-Bajali,
from Abu al-Bakhtari al-Ta'i, who said: Dhuhbba and the Azd encircled Aisha on the day of the Camel, and there were men from the Azd taking the dung of the camel, examining it, smelling it, and saying, "The dung of our mother’s camel has a scent like that of musk." And a man from the companions of Ali was fighting and saying:
I have unsheathed my sword against the men of the Azd striking among their middle-aged and youth,
each one tall with long arms and robust.
And the people were surging among one another, when a crier shouted: "Bring down the camel!" Then Bajir ibn Daljah al-Dhubabi, from the people of Kufa, struck it. It was said to him: "Why did you bring it down?" He said: "I saw my people being killed, so I feared they would be utterly destroyed, and I hoped that by bringing it down, there would be a remnant left for them."
