Chapter on Clarifying the Ambiguity of What Was Narrated from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) Regarding Who the Most Loved People Were to Him

5309 - What Abu Umayyah has narrated to us, who said: Abu Na'im narrated to us, who said: Yunus ibn Abi Ishaq narrated to us,
who said: al-Ayzar ibn Harith narrated to us, who said: al-Nu'man ibn Bashir said: Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) sought permission to enter upon the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), and he heard the voice of ‘Aisha saying: "By Allah, I know that Ali is more beloved to you than my father, two times or three times." So Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) sought permission again and entered, and he reached out towards her, saying: "O daughter of so-and-so, should I not warn you that I can hear you raising your voice over the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny)?" In this hadith, there was the acknowledgment of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) of what ‘Aisha said, but he did not deny it, and all the meanings of everything we have narrated in this chapter emerged in a manner that did not contradict. What we mentioned about the precedence of Ali (peace be upon him) in the love of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) over Abu Bakr in this regard was not an impediment to Abu Bakr being superior to him in virtue before the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny). Rather, each of them had his own place with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) in terms of love and virtue (may Allah be pleased with them both) and with the other companions aside from them. And Allah, we ask Him for guidance.
