Ayesha's hatred for Imam Ali (a.s.)

Hadith No: 1

Narrated `Aisha:

When the ailment of the Prophet (s.a.w.a.) became aggravated and his disease became severe, he asked his wives to permit him to be nursed (treated) in my house. So they gave him the permission. Then the Prophet came (to my house) with the support of two men, and his legs were dragging on the ground, between `Abbas, and another man." 'Ubaidullah (the sub narrator) said, "I informed `Abdullah bin `Abbas of what `Aisha said. Ibn `Abbas said: 'Do you know who was the other man?' I replied in the negative. Ibn `Abbas said, 'He was `Ali (bin Abi Talib)." `Aisha further said, "When the Prophet (s.a.w.a.) came to my house and his sickness became aggravated he ordered us to pour seven skins full of water on him, so that he might give some advice to the people. So he was seated in a Mikhdab (brass tub) belonging to Hafsa, the wife of the Prophet. Then, all of us started pouring water on him from the water skins till he beckoned to us to stop and that we have done (what he wanted us to do). After that he went out to the people."

'Ubaidullah said, "I told Ibn `Abbas what `Aisha had narrated and he said, 'Do you know who was the (second) man whose name `Aisha did not mention'" I said, 'No.' Ibn `Abbas said, 'He was `Ali Ibn Abi Talib.' 'A'isha, the wife of the Apostle (s.a.w.a.), said:

When the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.a.) fell ill and his illness became serious, he asked permission from his wives to stay in my house during his illness. They gave him permission to do so. He stepped out (of'A'isha's apartment for prayer) supported by two persons. (He was so much weak) that his feet dragged on the ground and he was being supported by 'Abbas b. 'Abd al-Muttalib and another person. 'Ubaidullah said: I informed 'Abdullah (b. 'Abbas) about that which 'A'isha had said. 'Abdullah b. 'Abbas said: Do you know the man whose name 'A'isha did not mention? He said: No. Ibn 'Abbas said: It was 'Ali.

It was narrated that ‘Ubaidullah bin ‘Abdullah said:

“I asked ‘Aishah: ‘O mother! Tell me about the sickness of the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.a.).’ She said: ‘He felt pain and started to spit (over his body), and we began to compare his spittle to the spittle of a person eating raisins. Like a person eating raisins and spitting out the seeds. He used to go around among his wives, but when he became ill, he asked them permission to stay in the house of ‘Aishah and that they should come to him in turns.’ She said: ‘The Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.a.) entered upon me, (supported) between two men, with his feet making lines along the ground. One of them was ‘Abbas.’ I told Ibn ‘Abbas this Hadith and he said: ‘Do you know who the other man was whom ‘Aishah did not name? He was ‘Ali bin Abu Talib.’”

4441 - Abu Abdullah Muhammad ibn Ya'qub al-Hafiz narrated to us, saying: Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn al-Nadr ibn Muslima ibn al-Jarud narrated to me, saying: Al-Zubair ibn Bukar narrated to me, from Yahya ibn al-Muqdam, from his uncle Musa ibn Ya'qub, from Abdur Rahman ibn Ishaq, from al-Zuhri, that Urwa ibn al-Zubair, and al-Qasim ibn Muhammad ibn Abi Bakr, and Abu Bakr ibn Abdur Rahman ibn al-Harith ibn Hisham, and Ubaydullah ibn Abdullah ibn Utbah, all of them informed him from Aisha, the wife of the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) began the illness with which he died in the house of Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her). And he came out, his head bound, and entered upon them leaning between two men, his feet dragging on the ground; on his right was al-Abbas, and on his left was a man. Ubaydullah said: Ibn Abbas informed me that the one on his left was Ali. This is a hadith with a sound chain of narration, but they did not include it in their collections. I have mentioned earlier the differences among the companions (may Allah be pleased with them) regarding the age of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) on the day he passed away.

- Abu Abdullah al-Hafiz and Abu Sa'id ibn Abi Amr narrated to us, both saying: Abu al-Abbas Muhammad ibn Ya'qub narrated to us, saying: Ahmad ibn Abd al-Jabbar narrated to us, saying: Yunus ibn Bakir narrated to us, from Ibn Ishaq, who said: Ya'qub ibn Uqbah ibn al-Mughira ibn al-Akhnas narrated to us, from az-Zuhri, from Ubaydullah ibn Abdullah ibn Uqbah ibn Mas'ud, from Aisha, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) entered upon me while he was suffering from a headache, and I was complaining of my head. I said: "Oh, my head!" He said: "Rather, I swear by Allah, O Aisha, it is my head!" Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "What would it matter to you if I died before you, and you took care of your affairs, prayed over me, and buried me?" I replied: "By Allah, I truly think that if that were the case, you would withdraw with some of your wives in my house at the end of the day and spend the night with her." The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) laughed, and then the pain continued with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) and settled in him, while he moved among his wives in the house of Maymunah. His family gathered around him, and Al-Abbas said: "We see the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) with signs of pleurisy. Come, let us cupping him." So they cupped him, and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) regained consciousness and said: "Who did this?" They said: "Your uncle Al-Abbas feared you might have pleurisy." The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "It is from Satan, and Allah would not allow him to have control over me. There will be no one in the house left without having been treated, except for my uncle Al-Abbas." All the people of the house were cupped, including Maymunah, although she was fasting that day, and it was in the sight of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny). Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) sought permission from his wives to be cared for in my house and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) went to my house, leaning on Al-Abbas and another man - whom she did not name - his feet barely touching the ground, until he reached the house of Aisha." Ubaydullah said: "I narrated this story to Ibn Abbas, and he said: 'Do you know who the other man was with Al-Abbas that she did not name?' I said: 'No.' He said: 'It was Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him).'"

She said: It is difficult for the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) to be moved around, so they gave him permission. He then left Maimuna's house and went to Aisha's, his feet shuffling between Abbas and another man, until he entered Aisha's house. It is claimed that Ibn Abbas said, regarding the other man, "Who was he?" They answered, "We do not know." He said, "It was Ali ibn Abi Talib."

Mention of Abd al-Rahman ibn Muljam al-Muradi and the Allegiance to Ali and His Rejection of It

- He said: Aspat ibn Muhammad narrated to us from Mutarif from Abu Ishaq from Amr ibn al-Asamm, who said: I entered upon al-Hasan ibn Ali while he was in the house of Amr ibn Huraith, and I said to him: Some people claim that Ali will return before the Day of Resurrection. He laughed and said: Glory be to Allah! If we knew that, we would not have married his wives nor divided his inheritance. It was said that Abd al-Rahman ibn Muljam was in prison, and when Ali, may Allah be pleased with him and grant him mercy and blessings, died and was buried, al-Hasan ibn Ali was sent to Abd al-Rahman ibn Muljam and brought him out of prison to kill him. The people gathered and came to him with oil, cloth, and fire, saying: We will burn him. But Abdullah ibn Ja'far, Husayn ibn Ali, and Muhammad ibn al-Hanafiyyah said: Let us first satisfy ourselves with him. Abdullah ibn Ja'far began to cut off his hands and legs, and he did not flinch or speak. Then he kohlied his eyes with a heated nail, and he did not flinch but kept saying: You are kohlifying the eyes of your uncle with a futile action. He kept saying: {Read in the name of your Lord who created, @ Created man from a clot} (Surah al-Alaq 96:1-2) until he had recited the entire last verse of the chapter, and his eyes were streaming with tears. Then he ordered that he be treated for his tongue to be cut off, and he flinched. It was said to him: We have cut off your hands and legs and blinded your eyes, O enemy of Allah, yet you did not flinch. But when it comes to your tongue, you flinch. He replied: My flinching is not from fear; rather, I dislike being in the world for a moment without remembering Allah. So they cut off his tongue and then placed him in a container and burned him with fire. Al-Abbas ibn Ali was still young that day and did not consider his age as an excuse for taking revenge. Abd al-Rahman ibn Muljam was a dark-skinned man with a handsome face, gap-toothed, with hair receding at his temples, and on his forehead was a mark of prostration. It was said that Sufyan ibn Umayyah ibn Abi Sufyan ibn Umayyah ibn Abd Shams went to the Hijaz with the killing of Ali (ع), and when this reached Aisha, she said:
And she threw down her staff and settled with it, as the traveler’s eyes brightened at the return.

- .... Narrations about Aisha's departure from Mecca to Basra after the murder of Uthman: Abu Mukhnif Lut ibn Yahya al-Azdiy said in his book: When Aisha learned of Uthman's murder while she was in Mecca, she set out hastily, saying: "Oh, this is the finger! May God take your father to Him! Did they not find Talha for her a sufficient support?" And when she reached Sharaf, Ubaid ibn Abi Salama al-Leithi met her. She said to him: "What news do you have?" He replied: "Uthman was killed." She said: "Then what?" He said: "Then the matters became uncertain for them, until a good resolution was reached: they pledged allegiance to Ali." She said: "I wish the heavens would collapse upon the earth if this were to happen." "Woe to you, pay attention to what you are saying!" He replied: "It is as I have told you, O Mother of the Believers." So she wailed, and he said to her: "What is the matter with you, O Mother of the Believers? By God, I do not see anyone known to be more deserving of her than him between her two valleys, nor more rightful, and I do not see a comparable one in all his situations. So why do you dislike his leadership?" She did not respond to him.

- .... He said: And Qays ibn Abi Hazim narrated that he performed Hajj in the year that Uthman was killed and was with Aisha when the news of his murder reached her, so she set out for Medina. He said: He heard her say on part of the way: "Alas for this finger!" And when she mentioned Uthman, she said: "May God distance him!" Until the news of the allegiance to Ali reached her, and she said: "I wish this had happened to that." Then she ordered her mounts to be returned to Mecca, and they were returned with her. He saw her in her journey to Mecca speaking to herself as if she were addressing someone: "They killed the son of Affan, wronged." So he said to her: "O Mother of the Believers, did I not just hear you say: 'May God distance him'?" And I saw you before as one of the harshest people against him and the most severe in your words about him." She replied: "That was so, but I reconsidered his matter and saw that they had demanded his repentance until, when they left him like white silver, they came to him fasting, in Ihram, in a sacred month, and killed him."
