- Muhammad ibn Ja'far narrated to us, who said: Muhammad ibn Isa narrated to us, from al-Hasan ibn Ali ibn Fadhal, who said: Abdullah ibn Bukayr narrated to me, from Zurara, who said: I heard Abu Ja'far (peace be upon him) say: When Ibrahim, the son of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), died, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) grieved for him greatly. Aisha said: What is it that troubles you about him? He is nothing but the son of Jirjis. So the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) sent Ali (peace be upon him) and commanded him to kill him. Ali (peace be upon him) went to him with a sword, and Jirjis, the Copt, was in a garden. Ali (peace be upon him) knocked on the door of the garden, and Jirjis came out to open the door for him. But when he saw Ali, he recognized the evil in his face and turned back, refusing to open the door. So Ali (peace be upon him) jumped over the wall, descended into the garden, and followed him, while Jirjis fled away. When he feared that Ali (peace be upon him) would overtake him, he climbed a palm tree, and Ali (peace be upon him) climbed after him. When he got close, Jirjis threw himself from the top of the palm tree, exposing his nakedness, and it appeared that he had neither the anatomy of a man nor that of a woman. So Ali (peace be upon him) returned to the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) and said: O Messenger of Allah, if you send me regarding this matter, will I be in it like a hot, driven nail, or should I remain steadfast? He said: No, rather be steadfast. Ali (peace be upon him) replied: By the One who sent you with the truth, he has neither the anatomy of a man nor that of a woman. The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: Praise be to Allah who has turned away from us the evil, O People of the House.
