O Ayesha, don't be obscene

Hadith No: 1

A'isha reported that some Jews came to Allah's Apostle (s.a.w.a.) and they said:

Abu'l-Qasim (the Kunya of the Holy Prophet), as-Sam-u-'Alaikum, whereupon he (the Holy Prophet) said: Wa 'Alaikum. A'isha reported: In response to these words of theirs, I said: But let there be death upon you and disgrace also, whereupon Allah's Messenger (s.a.w.a.) said: 'A'isha, do not use harsh words. She said: Did you hear what they said? Thereupon he (the Holy Prophet) said: Did I not respond to them when they said that; I said to them: Wa 'Alaikum (let it be upon you).

25393 - Abu Muawiya and Ibn Numayr narrated to us, saying: Al-A'mash narrated to us, from Muslim, from Masruq, from Aisha, who said: A group of Jews came to the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) and said, "Death (salam) be upon you, O Abu al-Qasim." He replied, "And upon you." Aisha said: So I said, "And upon you is death and curse (salam wa dham)." The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said, "O Aisha, do not be vulgar." She said: So I replied, "O Messenger of Allah, did you not hear what they said? 'Death be upon you.'" He said, "Is it not true that you responded to them with what they said? I said, 'And upon you.'" Ibn Numayr meant in Aisha's narration that Allah, the Mighty and Majestic be He, does not like vulgarity or being provocative. And Ibn Numayr said in his narration, then this verse was revealed: {And when they come to you, they greet you with that which Allah does not greet you with (Surah al-Mujadila 58:8)} until he finished.

- .... He said: In the end, foulness (fuhsh) is everything that becomes extremely repugnant among sins and acts of disobedience, and often the term lewdness (fawahish) is used to mean adultery (zina). Every reprehensible trait in words and actions is included. He said in al-Qamus: Fuhsh (indecency) is adultery (zina) and anything that becomes exceedingly vile among sins, and all that Allah, the Almighty, has forbidden, and it may become fuhsh, like honor (karam) becoming fuhsh. Fuhsh is an excessive transgression. And from this, "you should not be indecent (fahisha) towards Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her)". His statement: "what was foulness (fuhsh)" means what became extremely reprehensible in speech (except his affair)" refers to his flaw or shortcoming. It is said that what is meant by fuhsh is harshness, as indicated in the narrations of Abd ibn Humayd and al-Diya ....

- .... Masruq narrated from Aisha, who said: Some people from the Jews came to the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) and said, "Death be upon you, O Abu al-Qasim." He replied, "And upon you." Aisha said, "I said, 'Rather, upon you, death and destruction!'" The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said, 'O Aisha, do not be vulgar.' She replied, "Did you not hear what they said?" He said, "Have you not responded to them with what they said? I said, 'And upon you.'" In another narration, it is said that Aisha became aware of them and cursed them. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said, 'Be gentle, O Aisha, for Allah does not love vulgarity or the use of vulgarity,' and he added, Allah, Blessed and Exalted, revealed: {And when they come to you, they greet you with that which Allah does not greet you} (Al-Mujudila 58:8) to the end of the verse. "Destruction" (dhamm) with a softened meem means blame.

- .... And it is said that "al-fāḥish": refers to one who is very stingy, and "fāḥish" can also mean abundant or predominant. This is related to the hadith of some who was asked about the criticism of fleas and said: "If it is not fāḥish, there is no harm in it." Everything that exceeds its proper measure is fāḥish, so there is no harm in it. Everything that exceeds its proper measure is fāḥish, and the matter may become fāḥish, just as generosity may become fāḥish, with the meaning of excess, and tafāḥush. Fāḥish can also mean an overstepping of bounds in response, or an excess in action or speech. And from this is the saying: "Do not be fāḥish," and in another narration: "Do not say that, for Allah does not love fāḥishness or excessive fāḥishness." This was said to Aisha (ra). Therefore, fāḥishness here does not refer to vulgar or inappropriate speech...
