Narrated An-Nu'man ibn Bashir:

When AbuBakr asked the permission of the Prophet (s.a.w.a.) to come in, he heard Aisha speaking in a loud voice.

So when he entered, he caught hold of her in order to slap her, and said: Do I see you raising your voice to the Messenger of Allah? The Prophet (s.a.w.a.) began to prevent him and AbuBakr went out angry. The Prophet (s.a.w.a.) said when AbuBakr went out: You see I rescued you from the man.

AbuBakr waited for some days, then asked permission of the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.a.) to enter, and found that they had made peace with each other. He said to them: Bring me into your peace as you brought me into your war.

The Prophet (s.a.w.a.) said: We have done so: we have done so.

- .... Abu Dawood said in this chapter: Yahya ibn Ma'in narrated to us, saying: Hajjaj ibn Muhammad narrated to us, from Yunus ibn Abi Ishaq, from Abi Ishaq, from al-Ayazar ibn Harith from al-Nu'man ibn Bashir, who said: Abu Bakr sought permission to enter upon the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) and heard Aisha's voice raised loudly against the Messenger of Allah. When he entered, he took hold of her to slap her and said, "Don't you see yourself raising your voice against the Messenger of Allah?" The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) kept intervening to stop him, and Abu Bakr left, angry. Then the Messenger of Allah said when Abu Bakr left: "How did you see me saving you from the man?" Abu Bakr remained for a few days, then sought permission to enter upon the Messenger of Allah and found them reconciled. He said to them: "Include me in your peace as you had included me in your war." The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) replied: "We have done so, we have done so."

While they were both with him, she said: "You certainly say that you are a prophet." Then Abu Bakr stood up to her and struck her cheek, and the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "Calm down, O Abu Bakr. This is not why we called you."

5309 - What has been narrated to us: Abu Umayya said: Abu Nu'aym narrated to us, saying: Yunus ibn Abi Ishaq narrated to us, from al-Ayzar ibn Harith, who said: Al-Nu'man ibn Bashir said: Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) sought permission to enter upon the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), and he heard the voice of Aisha saying: "By Allah, I know that Ali is more beloved to you than my father, in fact, twice or three times!" So Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) sought permission again and entered, and he reached out towards her, saying: "O daughter of so-and-so, should I not hear you raising your voice against the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny)?" In this narration, there was the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) acknowledging what Aisha said without rejecting it. All meanings of everything we have narrated in this chapter were conveyed in a manner that does not involve contradiction. What we mentioned regarding the precedence of Ali (peace be upon him) in the love of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) over Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) does not preclude the possibility that Abu Bakr held a position of superiority over him in virtue before the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny). Rather, each of them had their own place with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) in terms of love and virtue (may Allah be pleased with them all) over other companions besides them. And Allah, we ask Him for guidance.

But Safiya's belongings were heavy, and she was on a slow, heavily-laden camel that dragged behind the caravan." Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "Transfer Aisha's belongings to Safiya's camel and transfer Safiya's belongings to Aisha's camel until the caravan moves on." Aisha said: "When I saw that, I said: 'Oh, the servitude of Allah! This Jewish woman has overcome us over the Messenger of Allah!'" Aisha continued: "Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said, 'O Umm Abdillah, your belongings were in a light load, and Safiya's belongings were heavy, so she was dragging behind the caravan. We transferred her belongings to your camel and your belongings to hers.'" I said: "Aren't you claiming to be the Messenger of Allah?" She said: "He smiled and replied, 'Are you in doubt, O Umm Abdillah?'" I said: "Aren't you claiming to be the Messenger of Allah? Shouldn't you have been fair?" Abu Bakr heard me, and he was somewhat stern or sharp. So he turned to me and slapped my face, and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: 'Easy now, O Abu Bakr.' Abu Bakr said: "O Messenger of Allah, did you not hear what she said?" The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) replied: "Those who are protective cannot see the valley from its peak."

I replied: 'No.' He said: 'Are you pleased with your father?' I said: 'Yes.' Then my father came, and the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: 'She is saying this and that.' I replied: 'You are a prophet, and you do not speak except the truth.' Then Abu Bakr raised his hand and slapped my face, saying: 'May you be cursed! Is it that you and your father are saying the truth?'" Ibn Adi said: "I do not know anyone who narrated this from al-A'mash except Salih ibn Abi Aswad with this chain of narration, but it has been narrated from Ubaydullah ibn Umar, from al-Qasim, from Aisha, narrated from Ubaydullah by Mubarak ibn Fadalah."

I replied, 'Would you be pleased with Abu Ubayda ibn al-Jarrah?' I said, 'No, that is a gentle man who would settle matters for you.' He said, 'Would you be pleased with Umar ibn al-Khattab?' I said, 'No, I fear Umar.' Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said, 'And Satan fears him.' He then asked, 'Would you be pleased with Abu Bakr?' I replied, 'Yes.' So he sent for him, and he came. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said, 'Judge between me and this one.' He said, 'Am I, O Messenger of Allah?' He said, 'Yes.' Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) spoke, and I said to him, 'Be just, O Messenger of Allah.' Aisha continued: Then Abu Bakr raised his hand and struck my face, causing my nose and one of my nostrils to bleed."

- .... And Abi Ya'la narrated with a chain that is not problematic, and Abu al-Sheikh ibn Hayyan narrated with a strong, good chain from Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) who said: "There was a light load in my belongings, and I was on a healthy camel, while the load of Safiyya was heavy, and she was on a heavy camel." Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, "Transfer Aisha's belongings to Safiyya's camel and transfer Safiyya's belongings to Aisha's camel until the caravan moves." I said, 'O servants of Allah, this Jewish woman has overwhelmed us over the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him).' She said, then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, 'O Mother of Abdullah, your load is light, and Safiyya's load is heavy.' So the caravan delayed, and we transferred her belongings to your camel and your belongings to hers." She said, and I said, "Do you not claim to be the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)?" And the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) smiled and said, "Are you in doubt, O Mother of the Believers, O Mother of Abdullah?" She said, I replied, "Do you not claim to be the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)? Then why did you not act justly?" And Abu Bakr heard me, and he was feeling a sense of strangeness or some sharpness and came to me and slapped my face. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, "Ease up, O Abu Bakr." He said, "O Messenger of Allah, did you not hear what she said?" The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, "Those who are jealous cannot see the bottom of the valley from its top." Imam Ahmad also narrated with a chain that is not problematic from Safiyya (may Allah be pleased with her).
