Ibn Sa'd reported a similar account from the narration of Ibn Abbas from Umar, and its chain is sound, as well as from the direction of Qais ibn Zayd, which is similar, and it added, "Then the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said, 'Gabriel came to me and said, "Take Hafsah back," for she is a fasting, praying woman, and she is your wife in Paradise.'" There is disagreement regarding Qais's companionship.

- .... Then Ibn Jarir challenged himself with what was narrated:that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) divorced Hafsa and then took her back and resolved to part with Sawdah until she offered her day to Aisha, but he then replied that this was before the revelation of His statement, exalted be He: {It is not lawful for you to marry other women after this, nor to exchange them for other wives} (Surah Al-Ahzab 33:52).
- .... As for the incident with Hafsa, Abu Dawood, an-Nasa'i, Ibn Majah, and Ibn Hibban in his Sahih narrated through various chains from Yahya ibn Zakariya ibn Abi Zaa'idah, from Salih ibn Salih ibn Hayyi, from Salamah ibn Kuhayl, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn Abbas, from Umar: that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) divorced Hafsa and then took her back.
