- .... Isma'il ibn Ishaq narrated, saying: Muhammad ibn Ubayd narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Thawr narrated to us, from Ma'mar
from Qatadah, that a man said, "If the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) were to die, I would marry Aisha," and Allah, the Exalted, then revealed: {And it is not for you to harm the Messenger of Allah, nor to marry his wives after him, ever.} (Al-Ahzab 33:53) And it was revealed: {His wives are your mothers.} (Al-Ahzab 33:6).
- .... Al-Qushayri Abu Nasr Abd al-Rahman said: Ibn Abbas said that a man from the leaders of Quraysh, one of the ten who were with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) on Mount Hurra - to himself - said, "If the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) were to pass away, I would marry Aisha, she is the daughter of my paternal uncle."
Muqatil said he was Talhah ibn Ubayd Allah. Ibn Abbas added that this man regretted what he had thought in himself, so he walked to Mecca on foot, fought mounted on ten horses in the way of Allah, and freed slaves, thus Allah atoned for him.
- .... Ibn Atiyyah said: It is narrated that this was revealed because some of the Companions said, "If the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) were to die, I would marry Aisha," and this reached the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), and he was distressed by it. In this way, Ibn Abbas alluded to it as a matter mentioned by some of the Companions. Maki
narrated from Ma'mar that he said it was Talhah ibn Ubayd Allah.
