- .... Ayyub ibn Jabir narrated from Abu Ishaq from al-Aswad: I said to Aisha, "Are you not amazed at a man from the freed ones (of Mecca) who challenges the companions of Muhammad for leadership?" She said, "What is there to be amazed at? It is the Sultan of Allah; He gives it to whomever He wills, both the righteous and the unrighteous. And Pharaoh ruled Egypt for four hundred years...."
- Personal Comment: Note well that Aisha did not rebuke al-Aswad ibn Yazid, nor did she accuse him of taking liberties, being disrespectful, or insulting (a Writer of Revelation), nor did she accuse him of doubting the integrity of any of the companions of the Messenger of Allah (p) when he mentioned matters concerning Muawiya, because she knew very well that Muawiya was devoid of any sanctity and was stripped of any historical legitimacy that would make him anything of significance.

- .... And Ibn Asakir said, with his chain of narration, from Abu Dawud al-Tayalisi, who said: Ayub ibn Jabir narrated to us from Abu Ishaq, from al-Aswad ibn Yazid, who said: I said to Aisha, "Do you not find it strange that a man from the former mutineers (al-Tulaqaa) is disputing with the companions of Muhammad (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) over the caliphate?" She replied, "And what is strange about that? It is the sovereignty of God, which He bestows upon whomever He wills, both the righteous and the wicked. Pharaoh ruled the people of Egypt for four hundred years."
