1634 - Waki' narrated to us, narrating from Shu'bah, from al-Harr ibn al-Sayyah, from Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Akhnas, who said: "Al-Mughira ibn Shu'bah addressed us and spoke ill of Ali (r)," and Sa'id ibn Zayd stood up and said: "I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) say: 'The Prophet is in Paradise, and Abu Bakr is in Paradise, and Umar is in Paradise, and Uthman is in Paradise, and Ali is in Paradise, and Talha is in Paradise, and al-Zubayr is in Paradise, and Abd al-Rahman ibn Awf is in Paradise, and Sa'd is in Paradise. If I wished, I could name the tenth.'"

1641 - Muhammad ibn Ja'far narrated to us, who said: Shu'bah narrated to us, from Husayn, from Hilal ibn Yasaf, from Abd Allah ibn Thalim, who said: Al-Mughira ibn Shu'bah gave a sermon and spoke ill of Ali (r), so Sa'id ibn Zayd stood up and said: "Are you not astonished that he insults Ali (r), who witnessed the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.a.) saying, 'We were on Hira or Uhud,' and the Prophet (s.a.w.a.) said, 'Be steadfast on Hira or Uhud, for you have only a friend or a martyr'?" The Prophet (s.a.w.a.) named the ten, mentioning Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman, Ali, Talha, Zubair, Sa'd, Abd al-Rahman ibn Awf, and named himself Sa'id.

18802 - Muhammad ibn Bashar narrated to us, saying: Mus'ar narrated to us, from al-Hajjaj, the freed slave of Banu Thalabah, from Qutbah ibn Malik, the uncle of Ziyad ibn Alaqah, who said: Al-Mughirah ibn Shu'bah spoke ill of Ali (r), and Zayd ibn Arqam said: "I know that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) used to prohibit reviling the deceased, so why did you revile Ali, who is dead?"

1459 - Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn Dawud ibn Sulayman narrated to us, saying: Abdullah ibn Muhammad ibn Najiyah narrated to us, saying: Rija ibn Muhammad al-Adhari narrated to us, saying: Amr ibn Muhammad ibn Abi Razin narrated to us, saying: Shu'bah narrated to us from Mas'ar from Ziyad ibn Alaqah from his uncle: that al-Mughira ibn Shu'bah cursed Ali ibn Abi Talib, and said, "O Mughira, did you not know that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) prohibited cursing the dead? Why then do you curse Ali, when he is dead?" This is a sound hadith on the condition of Muslim, although they did not both narrate it. Rather, they only agreed on the hadith of al-A'mash from Mujahid from A'ishah that the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "Do not curse the dead, for they have moved on to what they sent ahead."

Then Sa'id ibn Zayd ibn Amr ibn Nufayl al-Adwi, a member of the Adi clan of Quraysh (r), stood up and said: "I testify that I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) say, 'Ten will be in Paradise: رسول الله (the Messenger of Allah), Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman, Ali, Talha, al-Zubayr, Sa'd ibn Malik, and Abdur Rahman ibn Awf (may Allah be pleased with them).' If I wanted to name the tenth, I could do so." Then he named him, and Sa'id ibn Zayd said."

1428 - Abu Musa narrated to us, he said: Muhammad ibn Jaafar narrated to us, he said: Shu'bah narrated to us, from al-Harr ibn al-Sayyaah from Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Akhnas that al-Mughira ibn Shu'ba gave a sermon and spoke ill of Ali. Sa'id ibn Zayd said: "I bear witness that I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) say: 'The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) is in Paradise, and Abu Bakr is in Paradise, and Umar is in Paradise, and Ali is in Paradise, and Uthman is in Paradise, and Abd al-Rahman is in Paradise, and Talhah is in Paradise, and al-Zubayr is in Paradise, and Sa'd is in Paradise.'" Then he said: "If you wish, I can tell you who the tenth is," and he mentioned himself. Khalifah ibn Khayyat narrated to us, he said: Amr ibn Asim narrated to us, from Shu'bah, from al-Harr ibn al-Sayyaah, from Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Akhnas, from Sa'id ibn Zayd, who said: "I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) say something similar," and he added: "and Abu Ubaydah ibn al-Jarrah."

- Text of the Hadith: "He forbade insulting the dead": From Ziyad ibn Alaqa, from his uncle: That Al-Mughira ibn Shu'bah insulted Ali ibn Abi Talib, and Zayd ibn Arqam stood up to him and said: 'O Al-Mughira, did you not proclaim that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) forbade insulting the dead? Why then do you insult Ali, when he is dead?' Saheeh.
