Umar and Uthman threatened Abu Huraira with denial for the large number of his narration of hadith

- .... They said: Umar forbade him from narrating hadith and said to him: "You must abandon narrating from Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), or I will certainly send you to the land of Daws." This from Umar indicates the falsehood of Abu Hurayrah, and the response is that Abu Hurayrah felt it was imperative to inform people of what he heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) to absolve himself from the sin of withholding knowledge. This compulsion led him to increasingly narrate hadith, so he would often recount many of the narrations (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) in a single gathering. However, Umar (ra) believed that people should firstly occupy themselves with the Quran and that narrations from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) should be minimal, except for those pertaining to actions. He did not want them to hear narrations of concessions, lest they become reliant on them, nor complex hadith that might be beyond their understanding. He was also concerned about those who narrated excessively making errors in their narrations. For all these reasons, Umar prohibited the companions from excessive narration and spoke sternly to Abu Hurayrah, threatening him with exile because he was the companion who narrated the most hadith....

Abu Zur'ah al-Dimashqi said: Muhammad ibn Zur'ah al-Ra'ini narrated to me, who said: Marwan ibn Muhammad narrated to us, who said: Sa'id ibn Abd al-Aziz narrated to us, from Isma'il ibn Abd Allah from al-Sa'ib ibn Yazid, who said: I heard Umar ibn al-Khattab say to Abu Huraira: "You will either stop narrating hadith from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), or I will send you to the land of Dus." And he said to Ka'b al-Ahbar: "You will either stop narrating from the First (i.e., the Torah) or I will send you to the land of the monkeys."
