- .... Al-Waqidi narrated with a chain of transmission, saying: When the people of al-Harrah rose up and expelled the Umayyads from the city, they pledged allegiance to Ibn al-Ghaseel unto death. He said: "O people, by Allah, we did not rise up until we feared that we would be struck by a man who marries mothers of children, daughters, and sisters, drinks wine, and neglects prayer, from the sky."

Al-Dhahabi - Siyar A'lam al-Nubala - Among those who witnessed the time of Prophethood - Yazid ibn Muawiya

- .... And Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Masma' said: Yazid was intoxicated and stood up to dance, then fell on his head, causing it to split open and his brain to be exposed.
- .... I say: He was strong, courageous, possessing judgment, resolve, acumen, and eloquence, and he had good poetry. He was a naqshabi (open enemy of the Ahl al-Bayt), coarse, rough, and uncouth, partaking in intoxicants and committing indecencies. He began his rule with the murder of the martyr Al-Husayn and ended it with the Incident of Al-Harra, so the people despised him, and no blessings were marked in his life.

He was narrated from by: Sheikh al-Muwafiq, Al-Hafiz Abd al-Ghuni, Hammad ibn Sidhiq, al-Baha Abd al-Rahman, Al-Hafiz Muhammad ibn al-Dubaythi, and a group who stated that he authored a part on the virtues of Yazid, in which he presented wonders and remarkable accounts; if he had not authored it, it would have been better.

9754 - Yazid ibn Muawiyah ibn Abi Sufyan al-Umawi narrated from his father, and his son Khalid and Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan, who is criticized regarding his integrity, is not considered suitable to narrate from. Ahmad ibn Hanbal said: It is not appropriate for him to narrate from.

- .... They gathered around Abdullah ibn Hanzalah and he pledged allegiance to them unto death. He said: "O people, fear Allah, for by Allah, we did not rise against Yazid until we feared that we would be struck with stones from the sky. He is a man who marries mothers of children, daughters, and sisters, drinks alcohol, and neglects prayer."
