281 - .... Abu al-Faraj ibn al-Jawzi said in his book: (Al-Radd 'ala al-Mut'aṣsib al-'Anid al-Mani' min Dhamm Yazid):
The pious scholars allowed cursing him.- And in the fatwas of Hafiz al-Din al-Kurdi al-Hanafi:
Cursing Yazid is permissible, but it should not be done. The same applies to al-Hajjaj.
- Ibn al-Kamal said, and he reported from Imam Qiwam al-Din al-Safari:
There is no harm in cursing Yazid, but it is not permissible to curse Muawiyah, the deputy of the Faruq. However, he made an error in his ijtihad, and Allah, the Exalted, will overlook it, and we should refrain from speaking ill of him in reverence for his leader and companion.
- Ibn al-Jawzi was asked about Yazid and Muawiyah, and he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said, "Whoever enters the house of Abu Sufyan is safe," and we know that his father entered it and became safe,
but the son did not enter it.- Then Mawla Ibn al-Kamal said:
The truth is that cursing Yazid is permissible due to the widespread knowledge of his disbelief and the numerous reports of his atrocities and evil, as known in detail. Otherwise, cursing a specific person, even if sinful, is not permissible, unlike in other cases.
- This is the meaning of the statement of the scholar al-Taftazani:
I do not doubt his Islam, but rather his faith. May the curse of Allah be upon him and his supporters and helpers.- Ibn al-Jawzi was asked while on the pulpit of preaching: How can it be said that Yazid killed Hussain when he was in Damascus and Hussain in Iraq? He replied:
"A arrow struck its target, though the shooter was in Dhul-Salam. * Who is in Iraq, you are very far from your mark."
