- .... And when the people of Medina rose up during the nights of al-Hurra and expelled the Umayyads from the city, openly criticizing Yazid, they all united on Abdullah and entrusted their affair to him. He pledged allegiance to them unto death and said: "O people, fear Allah alone
for, by Allah, we did not rise up against Yazid until we feared that we would be struck with stones from the sky. How could we tolerate a man who marries mothers, daughters, and sisters, drinks alcohol, and neglects prayer? By Allah, if I were alone with no one else, I would still fight valiantly against him." Then the people rushed that day to pledge allegiance from every direction.
