Saying of the Prophet (s.a.w.a.) concerning Makkah and Madinah

Hadith No: 1

Narrated Anas:

The Prophet (s.a.w.a.) said, "Medina is a sanctuary from that place to that. Its trees should not be cut and no heresy should be innovated nor any sin should be committed in it, and whoever innovates in it an heresy or commits sins, then he will incur the curse of Allah, the angels, and all the people."

'Asim reported:

I asked Anas b. Malik whether Allah's Messenger (s.a.w.a.) had declared Medina as sacred. He said: Yes. (the area) between so and so. He who made any innovation in it, and further said to me: It is something serious to make any innovation in it (and he who does it) there is upon him the curse of Allah, and that of the angels and of all the people, Allah will not accept from him on the Day of Resurrection either obligatory acts or the surpererogatory acts. Ibn Anas said: Or he accommodates an innovator.

1040 - Abd al-Rahman narrated to us, from Sufyan, from al-A'mash, from Ibrahim al-Timi, from his father, from Ali (ra), who said: "We have nothing except the Book of Allah, the Exalted, and this scroll from the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny). It is forbidden to innovate anything in the city of Medina, from one boundary (A'ir) to another (Thawr). Whoever introduces an innovation or shelters an innovator in it will have the curse of Allah, the angels, and all of humanity upon them. No compensation or justice will be accepted from them." And he said: "The covenant of Muslims is one. Therefore, whoever violates a Muslim will have the curse of Allah, the angels, and all of humanity upon them. No compensation or justice will be accepted from them." And whoever takes charge of a people without the permission of their guardians will have the curse of Allah, the angels, and all of humanity upon them. Allah will not accept from them any compensation or justice.

1933 - Narrated from Anas: that the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) looked over the city of Medina and said: O Allah, I sanctify what is between its two mountains just as Ibrahim (Abraham) sanctified Mecca. O Allah, bless them in their cubits and their sa's. This is agreed upon, and Al-Bukhari has from him: that the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: Medina is a sanctuary from such-and-such to such-and-such; its trees should not be cut, nor should any new thing be introduced in it. Whoever introduces a new thing in it will have the curse of Allah, the angels, and all the people upon him. And Muslim has from Asim al-Ahwal, who said: I asked Anas, Did the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) sanctify Medina? He replied: Yes, it is sacred, and its flora should not be disturbed. Whoever does so will have the curse of Allah, the angels, and all the people upon him.
1934 - And from Abu Sa'id: that the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: I have made Medina a sanctuary, a sacred area between its two narrow passes, where no blood shall be shed, no weapons carried, and no trees will be struck except for fodder.
1935 - And from Jabir, who said: the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: Ibrahim (Abraham) sanctified Mecca, and I have sanctified Medina, what is between its two ridges; no foliage shall be cut, nor its game hunted. Both were narrated by Muslim.
1936 - And from Jabir: that the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said in Medina: it is sacred what is between its two volcanic regions and its entire protection; its trees may not be cut except for fodder. Ahmad narrated this, and the second hadith of Ali has narrators that are reliable, and its essence is found in the two Sahihs.
