- .... It has been narrated that Yazid became well-known for playing musical instruments, drinking wine, singing, hunting, and keeping boys, singers, dogs, and engaging in fights between rams, bees, and monkeys. There was not a day that he did not wake up intoxicated. He would tie a monkey onto a horse outfitted with saddlebags using ropes, drive it around, and dress the monkey in golden caps, as well as the boys. He would also race horses, and when the monkey died, he would mourn it. It is said that the reason for its death was that he had carried a female monkey and it bit him while he was teasing it. They reported other things about him, and Allah knows best regarding the accuracy of that.

769 - And an elder from Sham mentioned to me that the cause of Yazid's death was that he rode his monkey on an ass while he was drunk and then chased after it, causing his neck to break or something to rupture in his abdomen.

770 - .... And Muhammad ibn Yazid al-Rifa'i narrated to me that my uncle told me from Ibn Iyash, who said: Yazid went out to hunt in Hawarin while he was drunk, riding with a wild she-ass in front of him that he had loaded with a monkey, and he began to run the she-ass and say:
O Aba Khlef, find a way for yourself, * for there is no guarantee if you perish upon her.
And he fell, breaking his neck.
