4417 - Abu Bakr Ahmad ibn Salman al-Faqih in Baghdad narrated to us, saying: Abu Dawud Suleiman ibn al-Ash'ath narrated to us, saying: Uthman ibn Abi Shaybah narrated to me, saying: Ahmad ibn al-Fadl narrated to us, saying: Asbat ibn Nasr narrated, from al-Suddi, from Mus'ab ibn Sa'd from Sa'd, who said: "When it was the day of the Conquest of Mecca, Abdullah ibn Sa'd ibn Abi Sarh hid with Uthman ibn Affan (may Allah be pleased with him). Uthman came to him and brought him until he stood him before the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, Abdullah seeks your pledge of allegiance.' So he raised his head and looked at him three times, then turned to his companions and said: 'Was there not a strong man among you who could rise to this when he saw me withhold my hand from pledging allegiance to him and kill him?'" They said, "We do not know, O Messenger of Allah, what is in your heart, except that you could have signaled to us with your eye." He said, "It is not befitting for a Prophet to have a betrayal of the eyes." This is a sound hadith on the condition of Muslim, but they did not include it.

So the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) ordered that he be killed, and Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) sought refuge for him, and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) granted him refuge. 4419 - Abu al-Abbas Muhammad ibn Ya'qub narrated to us, saying: Ahmad ibn Abd al-Jabbar narrated to us, saying: Yunus ibn Bakir narrated to us, from Ibn Ishaq, who said: Sharhabil ibn Sa'd narrated to me, saying: The following was revealed concerning Abdullah ibn Abi Sarh: {And who is more unjust than one who invents a lie against Allah or says, "I have been inspired," when nothing has been inspired to him, and one who says, "I will reveal something similar to what Allah has revealed" (Surah al-An'am 6:93)} When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) entered Mecca, he fled to Uthman ibn Affan (may Allah be pleased with him), who was his milk brother, and he stayed hidden with him until the people of Mecca felt secure. Then he was brought to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), and he sought protection. Al-Hakim said: It is well-established in the narrations of both books that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) commanded the killing of Abdullah ibn Sa'd and Abdullah ibn Khatal before entering Mecca. Therefore, whoever examines the murder of Amirul Mumineen Uthman ibn Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) and the wrongdoings of Abdullah ibn Sa'd against him in Egypt until his affair unfolded as it did will know that the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) was more knowledgeable about it.

- .... And among them (was) Abdullah ibn Sa'd ibn Abi Sarh, the Qurashi al-'Amiri, Uthman's maternal half-brother by breastfeeding. The mother of Uthman nursed him, and he wrote the Revelation, then he apostasized from Islam and joined the polytheists in Mecca. When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) conquered it, he had already been sentenced to death among those whose blood was deemed permissible. So he came to Uthman ibn Affan and asked him to secure his safety, and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) granted him safety, as we mentioned earlier in the Battle of the Conquest. Then Abdullah ibn Sa'd's Islam became very commendable.

He was the foster brother of Uthman, and he had companionship of the Prophet and narrated hadith. Al-Haytham ibn Shafi narrated from him. He was appointed governor of Egypt by Uthman and it was said that he witnessed the Battle of Siffin, although it appears that he was unarmed during the fitna (tribulation) and withdrew to Ramla. Mus'ab ibn Abdullah said: Uthman sought exemption for ibn Abi Sarh on the day of the Conquest from the Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him and His Holy Perfumed Beings), and he had commanded his death. He is the one who opened Africa. Al-Daraqutni said: He apostatized, and the Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him and His Holy Perfumed Beings) declared his blood sacred. Then he returned as a Muslim and Uthman interceded for him. Ibn Yunus said: He was the commander of the right flank of Amr ibn al-As and a mounted warrior of Banu Amir, counted among them. He participated in the conquests of Africa and settled at the end of Ashkelon, neither pledging allegiance to Ali nor Muawiya.

It was narrated that Ibn 'Abbas said concerning Surat An-Nahl - :

"Whoever disbelieved in Allah after his belief, except him who is forced thereto and whose heart is at rest with Faith; but such as open their breasts to disbelief, on them is wrath from Allah, and theirs will be a great torment." "This was abrogated, and an exception was made, as Allah said: "Then, verily, your Lord for those who emigrated after they had been put to trials and thereafter strove hard and fought (for the Cause of Allah) and were patient, verily, your Lord afterward is, Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful." This was 'Abdullah bin Sa'd bin Abi As-Sarh who was the governor of Egypt and used to write to the Messenger of Allah [SAWA]. The Shaitan misled him and he went and joined the unbelievers. So he (the Prophet [SAWA]) commanded that he be killed on the day of the Conquest of Makkah. Then, 'Uthman bin 'Afan sought protection for him, and the Messenger of Allah [SAWA] granted him protection."

- Al-Bukhari Muhammad ibn Abdul-Baqi narrated to us, saying: Al-Hasan ibn Ali narrated to me, saying: Abu Umar ibn Hayyuwiya narrated to me, saying: Abdul-Wahhab ibn Abi Hayya narrated to me, saying: Muhammad ibn Shuja' narrated to me, saying: It was said that Abdullah ibn Sa'd ibn Abi Sarh used to write the revelation for the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), and sometimes the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) would dictate to him, and he would write, "All-Witnessing, All-Knowing," while the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) actually meant to say, "All-Knowing, Wise." The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) would read it and say, "Thus is Allah," and accept it. So, he fell into temptation and said, "Muhammad does not know what he is saying: I can write for him whatever you wish. What I have written is being revealed to me just as it is being revealed to Muhammad." He fled from Medina to Mecca, apostate, and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) declared his blood to be worthlessly shed on the Day of Conquest. When that day came, Ibn Abi Sarh went to Uthman ibn Affan, who was his brother through nursing, and said, "O brother, by Allah, I have chosen you! So, keep me here and go to Muhammad and speak to him, for Muhammad, if he sees me, will strike me in a way that will harm my eyes, for my crime is the gravest of crimes. I have come repenting." Uthman said, "No, go with me." Abdullah replied, "By Allah, if he sees me, he will strike my neck and not engage in conversation with me. He has declared my blood to be shed, and his companions are seeking me in every place." Uthman said, "Come with me; he will not kill you, if Allah wills." Suddenly, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) was not seen except with Uthman, holding the hand of Abdullah ibn Sa'd ibn Abi Sarh, standing between him. Uthman approached the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) and said, "O Messenger of Allah, his mother used to carry me and walk with me, nurse me, and wean me. She would be kind to me and leave him, so please grant me this." The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) turned away from him. Uthman continued to speak to the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) every time he turned away, returning to this same point. The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) was merely turning away, wanting a man to stand and strike his neck, for he did not trust him. When he saw that no one would stand up, and Uthman had bowed down to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), kissing his head and saying, "O Messenger of Allah, accept his pledge of allegiance. I would sacrifice my father and mother for you!" The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said, "Yes." Then he turned to his companions and said, "What prevented you from having a man among you go to this dog and kill him?" Or he said, "this transgressor." Abbas ibn Bishr replied, "Would you not have indicated to me, O Messenger of Allah? By the One who sent you with the truth, I would follow your gesture from every direction, hoping you would point to me so I could strike his neck." It could be said that this is what Abu al-Yusr or Umar ibn al-Khattab said. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) replied, "I do not kill by mere indication," and someone said that the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) declared that day, "A Prophet does not have a traitor in his eyes." So, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) accepted his pledge of allegiance, and he began to flee from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) whenever he saw him. Uthman said, "O Messenger of Allah, by my father and mother, if you only knew how Ibn Umm Abdallah flees from you whenever he sees you!" The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) smiled and said, "Have I not already accepted his pledge of allegiance and granted him safety?" Uthman replied, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah, but he remembers the gravity of his offense in Islam." The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said, "Islam erases what was before it." Uthman then returned to Ibn Abi Sarh and informed him, and he would come and greet the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) with peace along with the people.
