Volume: (8) - Hadith Number: (140)
2483 - Al-Walid ibn Uqbah ibn Abi Mu'ayt, Abu Wahb al-Qurashi, who saw the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), was the governor of Kufa. He said: Muhammad ibn Abdullah al-Umari narrated to me: Zayd ibn Abi al-Zarqaa al-Mawsili said: Ja'far ibn Burqan narrated to us, from Thabit ibn al-Hajjaj al-Kalabi, from Abdullah al-Hamdani, from Abu Musa from Al-Walid ibn Uqbah, who said: When the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) conquered Mecca, the people of Mecca began to come to him with their children, and he would rub their heads and pray for them for blessings. I was brought to him while I was adorned with perfumed oil, and he greeted me, rubbing my head. The only thing that prevented him from doing more was that my mother had adorned me with the oil, so he did not touch me further because of it. And Ubayd said: Yunus narrated to us, saying: Ja'far narrated to us from Thabit, from Abu Musa al-Hamdani, from Al-Walid, from the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny). And Al-Walid ibn Salih said: Fayyad al-Ruqai narrated to us from Ja'far, and he did not mention Abu Musa in a similar context.

I was brought to him, and I was perfumed with khuluq, but he did not stroke my head. What prevented him from doing so was that my mother had perfumed me with khuluq, so he did not touch me because of the khuluq.

4601 - Abu Abd Allah Muhammad ibn Ahmad al-Isbahani narrated to us, saying: al-Husayn ibn al-Jahm narrated to us, saying: al-Husayn ibn al-Farj narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Umar said: "The name of Abi Sarh was al-Husam ibn al-Harith ibn Habib ibn Khuzaymah." Al-Hakam said: "When Abdullah ibn Sa'd took control of Egypt, he had offspring, including Amr ibn Suwayd al-Sarhi, a companion of Abdullah ibn Wahb. As for al-Walid ibn Uqbah ibn Abi Mu'ayt, he was born during the lifetime of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) and was brought to him, thus he was deprived of his (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) blessing."

4602 - Ali ibn Hamshad al-Adl narrated to us, confirming the accuracy of what I mentioned, as well as Abdullah ibn Ahmad ibn Hanbal, who said: My father narrated to me, from Fayyad ibn Zuhr al-Raqi, from Ja'far ibn Burqan, from Thabit ibn al-Hajjaj al-Kalabi, from Abdullah al-Hamdani from al-Walid ibn Uqba, who said: When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) conquered Mecca, the people of Mecca began to bring their children to him, and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) would wipe over their heads and pray for them. My father took me out to him when I was adorned with perfume, but he did not wipe over my head or touch me, and nothing prevented him from doing so except that my mother had adorned me with the perfume, so he did not touch me because of the perfume. Ahmad ibn Hanbal (RA) said: And it has been narrated that he embraced Islam that day, but the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) found him repugnant, so he did not touch him or pray for him, and the perfume does not prevent prayer—no doubt, also, it is a child's natural response to the actions of others, but he was withheld from the blessing of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) due to God's prior knowledge of him. And Allah knows best.

- Al-Hakim and al-Bayhaqi narrated from Al-Walid ibn Uqbah, who said: When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) opened Mecca, the people of Mecca began to come with their children, and he would rub his hands over their heads and pray for them. My mother took me to him while I was perfumed with scents, but he did not rub his hands over my head nor touch me. Al-Bayhaqi said: This was God's prior knowledge regarding Al-Walid, so he was prevented from the blessing of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). Al-Walid's actions when he was appointed by Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) are well-known, involving a sip of wine and delaying prayer, and these were among the reasons they criticized Uthman, ultimately leading to his murder.
