4602 - Ali ibn Hamshad al-Adl narrated to us, confirming the accuracy of what I mentioned, as well as Abdullah ibn Ahmad ibn Hanbal, who said: My father narrated to me, from Fayyad ibn Zuhr al-Raqi, from Ja'far ibn Burqan, from Thabit ibn al-Hajjaj al-Kalabi, from Abdullah al-Hamdani
from al-Walid ibn Uqba, who said: When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) conquered Mecca, the people of Mecca began to bring their children to him, and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) would wipe over their heads and pray for them. My father took me out to him when I was adorned with perfume, but he did not wipe over my head or touch me, and nothing prevented him from doing so except that my mother had adorned me with the perfume, so he did not touch me because of the perfume. Ahmad ibn Hanbal (RA) said: And it has been narrated that he embraced Islam that day, but the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) found him repugnant, so he did not touch him or pray for him, and the perfume does not prevent prayer—no doubt, also, it is a child's natural response to the actions of others, but he was withheld from the blessing of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) due to God's prior knowledge of him. And Allah knows best.
