- .... In this year, al-Mu'tadid Billah resolved to curse Mu'awiyah ibn Abi Sufyan from the pulpits and ordered the preparation of a book to be read to the people. However, Ubaydullah ibn Sulayman ibn Wahb feared the public's unrest and that there was no assurance against a potential upheaval, so he did not pay any attention to this statement.
- .... On the eleventh day - which was a Friday - it was announced in both mosques that the dhimma was free of anyone who gathered among the people for debate or argument, and that anyone who did so would render themselves subject to punishment. He also instructed the cupbearers and those serving water in the mosques not to show mercy on Mu'awiyah nor speak of him in a positive light.

Thus, he fought, striving, and defended, struggling, and remained in opposition until overcome by the sword, and the command of Allah was exalted while they were reluctant. So, they were killed in Islam, not embracing it, and captured in disbelief, not turning away from it. - .... So, O people, refrain from what angers Allah and reconsider what pleases Him about you, and be content with what Allah has chosen for you. Adhere to what He has commanded you and avoid what He has forbidden you. Follow the straight path, the clear proof, the obvious ways, and the Ahl al-Bayt of mercy, whom Allah guided you through at the beginning and saved you from injustice and aggression in the end. He will lead you to tranquility, safety, and honor through their rule, and encompass you with righteousness in your religions and livelihoods during their days. And curse those whom Allah and His Messenger cursed, and part with those from whom you will not attain proximity to Allah except by parting from them. O Allah, curse Abu Sufyan ibn Harb, his son Muawiya, Yazid ibn Muawiya, Marwan ibn al-Hakam, and his sons. O Allah, curse the imams of disbelief, the leaders of misguidance, the enemies of religion, the fighters against the Messenger, the changeers of laws, the alters of the Book, and the sheders of forbidden blood.
