8528 - Among them is what Abu Ahmad Ali ibn Muhammad al-Azraqiyy narrated to us in Merv, saying: Abu Ja'far Muhammad ibn Ishmael ibn Salim al-Sa'igh narrated to us in Mecca, saying: Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn al-Walid al-Azraqiyy, the caller to prayer (muezzin) of the Sacred Mosque, narrated to us, saying: Muslim ibn Khalid al-Zunji narrated to him, from al-Ala ibn Abdul Rahman, from his father from Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him): that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said, "I was shown in my dream that the sons of al-Hakam ibn Abi al-As ibn Umayya were jumping on my pulpit like monkeys." He said: The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) was not seen fully gathered, laughing, until he passed away. This is a sound hadith according to the criteria of the two Shaykhs, and they did not include it in their collections.

Abu Bakr ibn Abi Khaythuma said: Yahya ibn Ma'in narrated to us, Abdullah ibn Numeir narrated to us, from Sufyan al-Thawri, from Ali ibn Zayd from Sa'id ibn al-Musayyib regarding the verse: {And We did not make the vision that We showed you except as a trial for the people, and the cursed tree in the Quran} (Surah Al-Isra, 17:60) He said: He saw some people from the Umayyads on the pulpits, and he was distressed by that. It was said to him: It is only a worldly matter they are being given, and it will soon fade away, so he felt ease.

Abu Ja'far al-Razi narrated from al-Rabi', who said: When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) was taken on the Night Journey, he saw so-and-so, who was from a branch of the Umayyads, preaching to the people on the pulpit, and this troubled him. Then Allah revealed: {And I do not know; perhaps it is a trial for you and a provision for a time} (Surah Al-Anbiya, 21:111).

Ya'qub ibn Sufyan said: Ahmad ibn Muhammad Abu Muhammad al-Zurqi narrated to us, and al-Zanji - meaning Muslim ibn Khalid - narrated to us from al-Ala ibn Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Ala from his father from Abu Huraira that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "I saw in a dream the Banu al-Hakam - or the Banu Abi al-As ibn Umayya - jumping on my pulpit like monkeys." He said, "Neither did the Messenger of Allah see me fully gathered and laughing until he passed away."

And al-Thawri said, from Ali ibn Zayd ibn Jud'aan from Sa'id ibn al-Musayyib, who said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) saw the Banu Umayya on their pulpits, and he was displeased by that," so it was revealed to him: "It is only a worldly life that they have been given, and it has satisfied him," and this is his statement :{And We did not make the vision which We showed you except as a test for the people and the accursed tree in the Quran} (Surah al-Isra 17:60).

9246 - And from Abi Huraira: That the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) saw in his dream that the children of Bani al-Hakam were jumping on and off his pulpit. He awoke as if annoyed and said: "What is wrong with me? I saw the children of Bani al-Hakam jumping on my pulpit like monkeys." He was not seen laughing wholeheartedly after that until he died (peace be upon him and his holy progeny)." This was reported by Abu Ya'la, and its narrators are the men of the Sahih (authentic collections) except for Mus'ab ibn Abdullah ibn al-Zubair, who is trustworthy.

6461 - Mus'ab ibn Abdullah narrated to us, who said: Ibn Abi Hazm narrated to me from al-'Ala' from his father from Abu Huraira that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) saw in a dream that the Banu al-Hakam were jumping on and off his pulpit. He woke up looking somewhat irritated and said: "What is wrong with me? I saw the Banu al-Hakam jumping on my pulpit like monkeys." After that, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) was not seen fully smiling or laughing until he passed away (peace be upon him and his holy progeny).

Ibn Jarir narrated from Sahal ibn Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) saw the sons of so-and-so jumping on his pulpit like monkeys, and this troubled him. He did not fully smile again until he passed away. And Allah revealed: {And We did not make the vision that We showed you except as a trial for the people, and the cursed tree in the Quran} (Surah al-Isra 17:60).

Ibn Abi Hatim narrated from Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him): that the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said, "I saw the children of al-Hakam ibn Abi al-As on the pulpit as if they were monkeys," and Allah revealed concerning that: {And We did not make the vision that We showed you except as a trial for the people, and the cursed tree in the Quran} (Surah al-Isra 17:60) meaning al-Hakam and his children.

Ibn Abi Hatim narrated from Ya'la ibn Murrah (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said, "I was shown the Banu Umayyah on the pulpits of the earth, and they will rule over you, and you will find them to be evil lords." The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) was troubled by this, so Allah revealed: {And We did not make the vision that We showed you except as a trial for the people, and the cursed tree in the Quran} (Surah al-Isra 17:60).

Ibn Marduyah narrated from al-Husayn ibn Ali (may Allah be pleased with them): that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) woke up one morning, distressed, and it was said to him, "What is the matter with you, O Messenger of Allah?" He said, "I was shown in a dream that the Banu Umayyah were vying for my pulpit." It was said, "O Messenger of Allah, do not be distressed, for it is a worldly matter that will come to them." Then Allah revealed: {And We did not make the vision that We showed you except as a trial for the people, and the cursed tree in the Quran} (Surah al-Isra 17:60).

31737 - Narrated from Abu Huraira that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) saw in a dream that the sons of al-Hakam were climbing up and down on his pulpit. He woke up looking somewhat irritated and said: "I saw the sons of al-Hakam jumping on my pulpit like monkeys." It was said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) was not seen laughing fully and contentedly after that until his death."

He said, the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) was not seen fully gathered and laughing until he passed away.
- And Abu Abdullah al-Khallal narrated to us, saying: Ibrahim ibn Mansur narrated to us, from Abu Bakr ibn al-Muqri, who both said: My father Ya'qub narrated to us. And Abu al-Qasim Zaher ibn Tahir narrated to us, saying: Abu عثمان al-Buhairi narrated to me, from Ahmad ibn Ahmad, from my father Ya'qub, from Mus'ab, who added, ibn Hamdan ibn Abdullah narrated to us, and ibn Hamdan said: Ibn Abi Hazim narrated to me, from al-Ala, and ibn al-Muqri added, ibn Abdul-Rahman, from his father from Abu Huraira, that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) saw in a dream that the Banu al-Hakam were ascending and descending on his pulpit. He woke up looking somewhat annoyed and said, Zaher, looking annoyed or like one who is annoyed, "What is wrong with me? I saw the Banu al-Hakam jumping on my pulpit like monkeys." This concluded Zaher's narration. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) was not seen fully gathered and laughing after that until his death.

- .... Al-Hakim narrated from Abu Huraira and Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with them) that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "I saw in my dream that the sons of al-Hakam ibn Abi al-Ashtz were jumping on my pulpit like monkeys."
- .... Al-Bayhaqi narrated it in al-Dalail with the wording: "The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) saw the sons of al-Hakam jumping on his pulpit and woke up as if annoyed," and mentioned the hadith, saying: "The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) was not seen completely smiling or laughing until his death."

Al-Tabarani narrated from Thuban (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: 'I saw the sons of Marwan alternating on my pulpit, and I was displeased with that,' and I saw the sons of al-Abbas alternating on my pulpit, and I was pleased with that." One version states: the Banu Hashim instead of the Banu Abbas.

Al-Hasan replied: "Sit down, may Allah have mercy on you. That the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) saw the king of the Banu Umayyah raised before him, and he watched them ascending his pulpit one by one, distressed him, so Allah, the Exalted, revealed a Quranic verse about this, saying to him:" {And We did not make the vision We showed you except as a trial for the people, and the cursed tree in the Quran (Surah al-Isra: 60)}.

What he narrated about the interpretation of His divine statement: {And We did not make the vision which We showed you except as a trial for the people and the cursed tree in the Qur'an} (Surah Al-Isra 17:60) For the exegetes said that he saw the Umayyads leaping onto his pulpit like monkeys, this is the wording of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) that he explained to them as the interpretation of the verse, and it distressed him. Then he said: "The cursed tree is the Umayyads and the Banu Mughira," and his (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) words: "When the Banu Abi al-As reach thirty men, they will take the wealth of Allah as their own and His servants as their possessions," are in a similar vein.
