2062 - al-Nu'man ibn Thabit Abu Hanifah, a client of Banu Taym Allah ibn Thalabah, narrated from Ata, Nafi, Abu Ja'far Muhammad ibn Ali, Qatadah, Samak ibn Harb, and Hammad ibn Abi Sulayman. He was narrated from by Hisham, Ibad ibn al-Awwam, Ibn Mubarak, Waki', Abd al-Razzaq, and Abu Nu'aym. Later, Ibn Mubarak abandoned him; I heard my father say that.
- Abd al-Rahman said: My father told me that he heard Muhammad ibn Kathir al-Abdi say: I was with Sufyan al-Thawri when he mentioned a hadith, and a man said: So-and-so narrated to me differently. Sufyan asked who it was, and he replied: Abu Hanifah. Sufyan said: You have referred me to one not fully knowledgeable.
- Abd al-Rahman narrated to me: Salih ibn Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Hanbal narrated to me: Ali, meaning Ibn Madini, said: I heard Yahya ibn Sa'id say: Abu Hanifah passed by me while I was in the marketplace of Kufa, but I did not ask him about anything. He was my neighbor in Kufa, yet I did not approach him or ask him about anything.
- Abd al-Rahman narrated to me: Ibrahim ibn Ya'qub al-Jawzajani wrote to me regarding what he mentioned from Abu Abd al-Rahman al-Muqri, saying: Abu Hanifah used to narrate to us, and when he finished speaking, he would say: This which you have heard is all mere wind and falsehood.
- Abd al-Rahman narrated to me: Ibrahim ibn Ya'qub al-Jawzajani wrote to me, saying: Ibn Rahwayh narrated to me, saying: I heard Jarir say that Muhammad ibn Jabir al-Yamami said: Abu Hanifah stole Hammad's books from me.
- Abd al-Rahman narrated to me: Ahmad ibn Mansur al-Marwazi said: I heard Salmah ibn Sulayman say that Abdullah, meaning Ibn Mubarak, said: My companions blame me for narrating from Abu Hanifah, although he took the book of Muhammad ibn Jabir from Hammad ibn Abi Sulayman and narrated from Hammad without having heard it directly from him.
- Abd al-Rahman narrated to me: Muhammad ibn Hamuyah ibn al-Hasan said: I heard al-Husayn ibn al-Hasan al-Marwazi say: Abu Hanifah was mentioned in the presence of Ahmad ibn Hanbal, who said: His opinions are blameworthy, but his person should not be mentioned.
- Abd al-Rahman narrated to us: Hajjaj ibn Hamzah said: Abd ibn Uthman narrated to me, saying: I heard Ibn Mubarak say: Abu Hanifah was a poor knowledge-bearer in hadith.
