He replied: "The Speech of Allah is uncreated." The man said: "What do you say about my utterance of the Qur'an?" Al-Husayn replied: "Your utterance of it is created." The man went to Ahmad ibn Hanbal and informed him of this, and Ahmad disapproved of it and said: "This is an innovation." The man returned to al-Husayn and informed him of the denial of Abi Abdullah. Al-Husayn said to him: "Your utterance of the Qur'an is uncreated." The man went back to Ahmad and informed him of al-Husayn's reply, and that he had said: "Your utterance of the Qur'an is uncreated." Ahmad denied this as well and said: "This is also an innovation." The man returned to al-Husayn and informed him of the denial of Abi Abdullah as well. Al-Husayn replied: "What are we to do with this child? If we say created, he says innovation, and if we say uncreated, he says innovation." When this reached Abi Abdullah, his companions became angry for him and spoke out against al-Husayn al-Karabisi.
