Narrated `Abdullah bin `Amr:

There was a man who looked after the family and the belongings of the Prophet (s.a.w.a.) and he was called Karkara. The man died and Allah's Messenger (s.a.w.a.) said, "He is in the '(Hell) Fire." The people then went to look at him and found in his place, a cloak he had stolen from the war booty.

7415 - Karkarah, the mawlā (freedman) of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), was Nubian. He was gifted to him by Huwadah ibn Ali al-Hanafi al-Yamami, who then emancipated him. Abu Sa'id al-Nisaburi mentioned this in (Sharaf al-Mustafa) and Ibn Mundah said: He had companionship (with the Prophet). No narrations are known to be attributed to him. Al-Waqidi said he used to hold the mount of the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) during the fighting on the day of Khaybar. Al-Baladhuri stated that it is said he died during the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) while still a servant. Al-Bukhari narrated from the hadith of Abdullah ibn Amr ibn al-As who said: There was a man on the burden (or belongings) of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) named Karkarah, and he died. He mentioned the hadith in the context of warning against treachery in war.

- Muhammad ibn Umar narrated to us, saying: Malik ibn Anas narrated to us, from Thawr ibn Zayd al-Daylī, from Abu al-Ghayth from Abu Huraira, who said: Rifa'ah ibn Zayd al-Judhamī gifted him to him. So when the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) witnessed the Battle of Khaybar, he returned to the Valley of the Villages. And when he descended to set up his tent in the Valley of the Villages, a arrow from a crossbow came to him and killed him. It was said: "Congratulations to him on martyrdom!" The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "No, by the One in whose hand is my soul, the cloak he took from us on the day of Khaybar will be burned on him in the fire." The narration returned to the beginning, and it was said: Karkarah was a young boy of the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny).

- Karkirah: He had companionship with the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), but no narrations are known from him. He is mentioned in a hadith narrated to us by several people who reported it with their chains to Muhammad ibn Ishaq, who said: Ali ibn Abdullah narrated to us, mentioning that Sufyan narrated to him from Amr, from Salim ibn Abi al-Ja'd, from Abdullah ibn Amr, who said: "There was a man on the Prophet's (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) expeditionary share who was called Karkirah. He died, and the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said, 'He is in the Fire.'" They went to look for him and found a cloak that he had hidden. Al-Bukhari said that Ibn Salamah said: Karkru, meaning with a opened k, and it is recorded as such.

- .... And among them was Karkarah, the Mawla of the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), who was on a heavy load.
- Thus it is mentioned, and I do not know of any narration for Karkarah, but he is mentioned in a hadith narrated to us by Abu al-Qasim ibn al-Husayn, who said: Abu Ali ibn al-Madhab narrated to me, Ahmad ibn Ja'far narrated to me, Abdullah narrated to me, from my father, from Sufyan, from Amr, from Salim ibn Abi al-Ja'd, from Abdullah ibn Amr, who said: "He was on a mount," and once said he was on the heavy load of the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), "a man named Karkarah." When he died, it was said, 'He is in the Fire.'" They looked and saw that he was wearing a cloak that he had unjustly bound (in this world), and it was said at another time, "or a garment he had unjustly bound." Al-Bukhari narrated this from Ali ibn al-Madini, from Sufyan.
- Abu al-Fath Yusuf ibn Abd al-Wahid al-Mahani narrated to us, saying: Shuja ibn Ali al-Sufi narrated to me, from Abu Abd Allah ibn Mundah, who said: "Karkarah had companionship (of the Prophet) but no known narrations," except that he is mentioned in the hadith of Amr ibn Kaysan, from Salim.
