2316 - His statement: (or Ibn al-Na'man): .... It has been recorded with al-Zubair ibn Bakr in al-Nasab through Abu Bakr ibn Muhammad ibn Amr ibn Hazm from his father, who said: There was a man in Medina named al-Na'man who would indulge in drink, and he mentioned the hadith somewhat similarly. Ibn Mundhir narrated from the hadith of Marwan ibn Qays al-Sulami, from the companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny): that the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) passed by a drunken man named al-Na'man and ordered him to be beaten, the hadith continues. He is al-Na'man ibn Amr ibn Rifa'ah ibn al-Harith ibn Suwad ibn Malik ibn Ghanm ibn Malik ibn al-Najjar, an Ansari who witnessed the Battle of Badr and was known for his playful nature.

6774 - His statement: (in al-Nu'man or the son of al-Nu'man): In the narration of al-Kushmayhuni in the following chapter, it states: (al-Nu'man) without the definite article "al-" in both instances, and it has been previously noted in the Book of Agency that this also appeared in al-Isma'ili's account as (al-Nu'man) without doubt. Indeed, al-Zubair ibn Bakkar and Ibn Mundhir narrated the hadith from two sources where both mentioned (al-Nu'man) without doubt, and his lineage was mentioned there. In al-Zubair's narration, it is stated: al-Nu'man would sometimes indulge in intoxicants, and this complicates Ibn Abd al-Bar's assertion: that the one who was brought and had drunk alcohol was the son of al-Nu'man. For it was said in al-Nu'man’s biography that he was a righteous man, and he had a son who was deeply immersed in drinking alcohol. The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) flogged him and he said in another place: I believe the son of al-Nu'man was flogged for drinking alcohol more than fifty times.

6780 - His statement: (There was a man during the time of the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) whose name was Abdullah, and he was nicknamed al-Himar (the donkey)): Al-Waqidi mentioned in his account of the Battle of Khaybar from his campaigns that Abd al-Hamid ibn Ja'far narrated from his father, who said: He was found in the fortress of Sab' ibn Mu'adh, and he mentioned what was found of clothing and other things until he said: And flasks of wine, which were poured out, and on that day a man was drinking from that wine, said to be Abdullah al-Himar, both a name and a nickname after the animal. It has been stated in the narration of the chapter that the first was his name and the second his nickname. Ibn Abd al-Barr conjectured that he was ibn al-Nu'man, who is mentioned in the hadith of Uqbah ibn al-Harith, and he said in the biography of al-Nu'man: He was a righteous man, and he had a son who became deeply immersed in drinking, so the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) punished him. On this basis, both al-Nu'man and his son Abdullah would have been flogged for drinking.

Volume: (6) - Page Number: (65/66)
7933 - .... And Ibn Mundhir narrated from the husband of Abi Abd al-Rahim, who said: A man from Thaqif told me, from Jashm ibn Marwan from his father, Marwan ibn Qays, from the companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny): that the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) passed by a drunken man named Nu'ayman and ordered him to be beaten. He was brought to him again, drunk, and he ordered him to be beaten. Then he was brought to him a third time, and he ordered him to be beaten. Finally, he was brought to him a fourth time, and Umar was there. Umar said, "What are you waiting for with him, O Messenger of Allah? This is the fourth time; strike off his neck." At that, a man said, "I saw him on the day of Badr fighting fiercely." And another said, "I saw him having a commendable stance on the day of Badr." The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) replied, "How could it be, when he witnessed Badr?"

8811 - al-Nu'ayman ibn Amr ibn Rifa'ah ibn al-Harith ibn Suwad ibn Malik ibn Ghanim ibn Malik ibn al-Najjjar al-Ansari. It was recorded with Ibn Abi Hatim as Nu'ayman ibn Rifa'ah from Banu Tamim ibn Malik ibn al-Najjjar, and he had companionship (with the Prophet), died during the time of Mu'awiyah. Musa ibn Uqbah mentioned him, narrating from Ibn Shahab al-Zuhri and Abu al-Aswad, from Urwah and others, among those who witnessed Badr. Ibn Ishaq mentioned that he witnessed the last Pledge of Aqabah, and Ibn Sa'd said: he witnessed Badr, Uhud, the Trench, and all the battles. Zuhayr ibn Bakkar also mentioned him in the Book of Lightheartedness and Jesting through the narration of Abu Tawilah, from Abu Bakr ibn Muhammad ibn Amr ibn Hazm, from his father, who said: There was a man in Medina named al-Nu'ayman who would partake in drink (alcohol), and he mentioned something similar. It was reported that a man from the companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said to al-Nu'ayman: "May Allah curse you!" To which the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) replied: "Do not do that, for he loves Allah and His Messenger."
