8179 - Abu Zakariya al-Anbari narrated to us, saying: Abu Abdullah al-Bushanji narrated to us, saying: Ahmad ibn Hanbal narrated to us, saying: Abdul Razzaq narrated to us, who said: Ma'mar informed us, from Sahl ibn Abi Salih, from his father, from Abu Huraira (ra), that the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said, "Whoever drinks alcohol, whip him. Then if he drinks again, whip him. Then if he drinks again, whip him. Then if he drinks for the fourth time, kill him." Ma'mar said, "I mentioned this to Muhammad ibn al-Munkadir, and he replied, 'That was abandoned after he (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) was brought to Ibn al-Nu'man and whipped, then brought again and whipped, and then brought again and whipped.' Then he was brought for the fourth time and whipped," without anything more.

8186 - Ziyad ibn Abdullah narrated to us, from Ibn Ishaq, from Muhammad ibn al-Munkadir from Jabir, from the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), mentioning something similar. And he said: So the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) struck al-Nu'man four times.

8188 - Abu Abdullah Muhammad ibn Yaqub al-Shaybani narrated to us, who said: Yahya ibn Muhammad ibn Yahya al-Dhahili narrated to us, who said: Musaddad narrated to us, who said: Abd al-Wahhab narrated to us, who said: Ayyub narrated to us from Abdullah ibn Abi Muliqa from Uqbah ibn al-Harith, who said: Al-Nu'man or the son of Al-Nu'man was brought while drinking, and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) commanded those in the house to strike him. He said, and I was among those who struck him, so we struck him with slippers and palm fronds. This is a hadith with a sound chain of narrators, and they did not report it. Abd al-Warith ibn Sa'id and Abd al-Wahhab al-Thaqafi also supported Abd al-Wahhab in mentioning Uqbah ibn al-Harith in connection with this.

8189 - Abu Sa'id Ahmad ibn Ya'qub al-Thaqafi narrated to us, saying: Yusuf ibn Ya'qub al-Qadhi narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Abi Bakr narrated to us, saying: Abdul Warith narrated to us, saying: Ayyub from Ibn Abi Mulaika, who said: I was told by Uqbah ibn al-Harith that al-Nu'man ibn Qanbar was brought, and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) ordered those in the house to strike him with their hands and shoes, and I was among those who struck him.
