Chapter on the Obligation of Punishment for One Who Drinks Wine or Intoxicating Nabidh

17493 - Abu al-Hasan Ali ibn Muhammad al-Maqri informed us, saying: Al-Hasan ibn Muhammad ibn Ishaq informed me, saying: Yusuf ibn Yaqub al-Qadi narrated to me, saying: Sulayman ibn Harb narrated to me, saying: Wahib ibn Khalid narrated to me, from Ayyub, from Abdullah ibn Abi Miliyaka from Uqbah ibn al-Harith, that the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) was brought al-Nu'man or the son of al-Nu'man while he was drunk. He said that it was extremely distressing to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), and then he ordered those in the house to strike him, so they struck him with sandals and fronds. He said: And I was among those who struck him. This was narrated by al-Bukhari in his Sahih from Sulayman ibn Harb.

17507 - Abu al-Husayn ibn Bushran al-Adl in Baghdad narrated to us, saying: Abu Sahal Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn Ziyad al-Qattan narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn al-Jahm al-Samurai narrated to us, from Ya'la ibn Ubayd, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, from al-Zuhri, from Qabisah ibn Dhuwih, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "If someone drinks alcohol, flog him. If he returns, flog him. If he returns, flog him. If he returns, kill him." And a man from the Ansar, named Nu'ayman, was brought to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), and he struck him four times. The Muslims saw that death had been postponed and that the flogging was obligatory. This was also narrated from Muhammad ibn Ishaq ibn Yasaar, from Ibn al-Munkadir, from Jabir.

Chapter on One Who is Punished Four Times and Then Returns to It

17508 - Abu al-Tayyib Sahl ibn Muhammad ibn Sulayman, may Allah have mercy on him, narrated to us, saying: The Imam and my father narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Ishaq ibn Khuzaymah narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Musa al-Harshi narrated to us, saying: Ziyad ibn Abdullah narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Ishaq narrated to me, from Muhammad ibn al-Munkadir, from Jabir ibn Abdullah, that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "Whoever drinks wine, whip him. If he returns to it, whip him again. If he returns to it, whip him again. If he returns for the fourth time, kill him." He said: And the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) punished al-Nu'man four times. The Muslims then saw that the punishment had been enacted when the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) struck four times. And Mamar narrated from Muhammad ibn al-Munkadir that he reported this from Zayd ibn Aslam, and that both said that.

17520 - Abu Abdullah al-Hafiz narrated to us, saying: Abu Bakr ibn Ishaq narrated to us, by way of dictation, saying: Yusuf ibn Yaqub narrated to us, saying: Sulayman ibn Harb narrated to us, saying: Wahib narrated to us, from Ayyub, from Abdullah ibn Abi Mulayka from Uqbah ibn al-Harith that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) was brought al-Nu'man or the son of al-Nu'man while he was drunk, and it was very distressing for the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny). Then he commanded those in the house to strike him. He said: So they struck him with sandals and palm fronds. He said: And I was among those who struck him. Al-Bukhari narrated it in the Sahih from Sulayman ibn Harb. Thus, Wahib narrated it from Ayyub.

17521 - And Abd al-Wahhab al-Thaqafi narrated it from Ayyub, who said: Al-Nu'man or the son of Al-Nu'man was brought, having drunk, and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said to those in the house:"Strike him." It was narrated to us by Abu Amr al-Bastami, who said: Abu Bakr al-Isma'ili informed me, saying: Muhammad ibn Ishaq ibn Khuzaymah narrated to me, saying: Bndar narrated to us, from Abd al-Wahhab ibn Abd al-Majid, from Ayyub, and he mentioned it. Al-Bukhari narrated it in the Sahih from Qutayba, from Abd al-Wahhab.
