4849 - Marwan ibn Qays al-Asadi, although some said al-Sulami. Al-Bukhari mentioned him among the Sahabah.
His son Khaythim ibn Marwan narrated from him: That
the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) passed by a drunken man named Nu'ayman and ordered him to be beaten. Then he was brought to him again, drunk, and he ordered him to be beaten. He was brought to him a third time and then a fourth time, and Umar was present. Umar said, "What are you waiting for, O Prophet of Allah? This is the fourth time; strike off his neck." Then a man said at that time, "I saw him on the Day of Badr fighting fiercely," and another said, "I saw him on the Day of Badr in a good stance." The Prophet of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) replied, "How could he not, having witnessed Badr?" and be pleased." The three (Al-Bukhari, Muslim, and Abu Dawood) narrated it.
