4849 - Marwan ibn Qays al-Asadi, although some said al-Sulami. Al-Bukhari mentioned him among the Sahabah. His son Khaythim ibn Marwan narrated from him: That the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) passed by a drunken man named Nu'ayman and ordered him to be beaten. Then he was brought to him again, drunk, and he ordered him to be beaten. He was brought to him a third time and then a fourth time, and Umar was present. Umar said, "What are you waiting for, O Prophet of Allah? This is the fourth time; strike off his neck." Then a man said at that time, "I saw him on the Day of Badr fighting fiercely," and another said, "I saw him on the Day of Badr in a good stance." The Prophet of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) replied, "How could he not, having witnessed Badr?" and be pleased." The three (Al-Bukhari, Muslim, and Abu Dawood) narrated it.

5286 - Nu'ayman ibn Amr ibn Rifa'ah ibn al-Harith ibn Suwad ibn Malik ibn Ghanm ibn Malik ibn al-Najjar, Abu Amr, witnessed the Pledge of Aqabah, Badr, and the battles thereafter. He was known for his frequent joking and would make the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) laugh with his jesting. He was a companion of Suwaybt ibn Harmalah .... His stories of humor are well-known and he used to drink alcohol, and he would be brought to the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), who would strike him with his sandal and order, and he would instruct his companions to strike him with their sandals and throw dust on him. When this became frequent, a man from the companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said to him: "May Allah curse you!" The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) replied: "Do not do that, for he loves Allah and His Messenger."
