Abu Muhammad, may Allah have mercy on him, said: Thus narrated us: Abdul Rahman ibn Abdullah, and he from him to al-Bukhari narrated to us: Qutaybah ibn Sa'id, narrated to us: Abdul Wahhab ibn Abdul Majid, from Ayyub al-Sakhtiyani, from Abdullah ibn Abi Miliyah from Uqbah ibn al-Harith, who said: "An-Nu'man was brought, or the son of an-Nu'man, and those in the house were commanded to strike him, and I was among those who struck him with their sandals."

Abdullah ibn Rabi narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Muawiya narrated to us, saying: Ahmad ibn Shu'ayb narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Musa, from Ziyad ibn Abdullah al-Bukkai, who reported from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, from Muhammad ibn al-Munkadir, from Jabir ibn Abdullah, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "Whoever drinks wine, strike him. If he returns to it, strike him. If he returns to it, strike him. If he returns a fourth time, strike his neck." So the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) struck Naiman four times, and the Muslims understood that the punishment had been carried out and that the death penalty had been lifted.
