6132 - Ibn Salam narrated to us, who said: Abd al-Wahhab al-Thaqafi informed us, from Ayyub, from Ibn Bay Muliika from Uqbah ibn al-Harith, who said: Al-Nu'mayn or the son of al-Nu'mayn was brought in a state of intoxication, and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) commanded those in the house to strike him. I was among those who struck him, and we struck him with sandals and palm fronds.
- .... His statement: (al-Nu'mayn) in the diminutive form, and his statement: (or the son of al-Nu'mayn) is a doubt from the narrator. It was reported in a narration by Isma'ili that al-Nu'man or al-Nu'mayn was brought, showing uncertainty about whether it was in the larger or smaller form. In another narration, it was mentioned as al-Nu'mayn without doubt, and it was noted in al-Zubair ibn Bakkar's book on lineages, through Abu Bakr ibn Muhammad ibn Amr ibn Hazm, from his father, who said: There was a man in Medina named al-Nu'mayn who would sometimes be found intoxicated.
- .... Ibn Mundhir narrated from the hadith of Marwan ibn Qays al-Sulami, from the companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny): that the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) passed by a drunk man named al-Nu'mayn and ordered that he be punished, the story continues. He was al-Nu'mayn ibn Amr ibn Rafi'a ibn al-Harith ibn Sawad ibn Malik ibn Ghanm ibn Malik ibn al-Najjār, an Ansari who witnessed the Battle of Badr and was known for his humor. Ibn Abd al-Bar stated that he was a righteous man and that the one punished by the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) was his son....

5776 - Suleiman ibn Harb narrated to us, saying: Weheib ibn Khalid narrated to us, from Ayyub, from Abdullah ibn Abi Mulaika from Uqbah ibn al-Harith, that the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) was brought Ni'man or the son of Ni'man while he was drunk, and he was distressed by it. He ordered those in the house to beat him, so they beat him with palm fronds and sandals, and I was among those who beat him.

6 - And the hadith: Abu Dawood also narrated it in the chapter on Hudud through Qutaybah with the same wording and others. His statement: (with a man) is said to suggest that this might be Abdullah, who was nicknamed Hammār, and this will be mentioned in the hadith about Umar in the chapter that follows. It is also possible that he was Nu'ayman, or it could be that he was a third person.
