- Abu al-Barakat Wajih ibn Tahir al-Shahhami narrated to us, saying: Abu Hamid Ahmad ibn al-Hasan ibn Muhammad al-Azhari narrated to us, saying: Abu Sa'id Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn Hamdun the merchant narrated to us, saying: Abu Hamid Ahmad ibn al-Hasan ibn al-Sharqi narrated to us, saying: Abu Abdullah Muhammad ibn Yahya al-Dhahli narrated to us, saying: Abu al-Yaman narrated to us, from Shu'ayb, from al-Zuhri, from Salim ibn Abdullah ibn Umar, that Abdullah ibn Umar said: My brother Abdul Rahman ibn Umar
and Abu Saru'ah Uqbah ibn al-Harith drank together while we were in Egypt during the caliphate of Umar, and they became drunk. When they became sober, they went to Amr ibn al-As, who was the governor of Egypt, and said: "Purify us, for we have become drunk from a drink we had." Abdullah ibn Umar said: And I was not aware that they had come to Amr ibn al-As. Abdullah ibn Umar continued: My brother mentioned to me that he had become drunk, and I said to him: "Enter the house, and I will purify you." Then inform me that something has happened to the emir. Abdullah ibn Umar said: I swear, I will not allow him to be shaved today in front of the people. "Enter, and I will shave you," I said. At that time, they were shaving heads as part of a punishment. So he entered the house with him. Abdullah ibn Umar said: I shaved my brother with my own hands, and then Amr ibn al-As punished them. When Umar heard of this, he wrote to him: "Send Abdul Rahman ibn Umar to me on a camel." Amr did as commanded, and when Abdul Rahman arrived before Umar, he flogged him and punished him because of his position, then sent him away. He remained healthy for a month, then what was destined befell him, and most people thought he died from Umar's punishment, but he did not die from the punishment itself.
