- .... His statement: (So Umar caught up with him): There is a deletion in the context, as the second narration indicates, where it says: So he relaxed and pushed him, and then killed him and the Muslims fled, and Umar ibn al-Khattab fled with them. When he saw them, he said, "This is the command of Allah," meaning the judgment of Allah and what He had decreed. Then they returned, as stated in the second narration, and they regrouped. The manner of their return and the defeat of the polytheists had been mentioned earlier in the first narration, which is sufficient to avoid repeating it.

1868 - Yahyaq ibn Humayd narrated to us, who said: Ibn Naf'i narrated to us, from Malik, from Yahya ibn Sa'id, from Umar ibn Kaythir ibn Aflah, from Abu Muhammad, from Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him), that he said: "We set out with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) in the year of Hunayn, and when we met the enemy, the Muslims experienced a setback. I saw a man from the polytheists overpowering a man from the Muslims." Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I circled around him until I approached him from behind and struck him on the shoulder with my sword, severing his armor. He turned to me, embraced me, and I sensed the smell of death from him. Then death overtook him, and he relaxed his hold on me." So I caught up with Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: 'What is the matter with the people?' I replied: 'The command of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic.' Then the people began to regroup, and the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "Whoever kills someone and has proof against him, his belongings are lawful for him." Abu Qatadah said: "I wondered who would testify for me concerning my kill." Then he repeated this a second time, and I said: "Who will testify for me concerning my kill?" Then he repeated it a third time. I stood up, and the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "What is the matter with you, Abu Qatadah?" I narrated the story to him. Then a man from the crowd said: "He speaks the truth, O Messenger of Allah. The belongings of that slain man are with me, so be satisfied with it from him." Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: "No, by Allah, nor a blessing of the eye! Would you take something from a lion of the lions of Allah, the Exalted, fighting for Allah and His Messenger, and give you his belongings?" The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "Give it to him." Abu Qatadah said: "So he gave it to me, and I sold the armor, using the money to buy a plot of land in Banu Salimah. That was the first property I acquired in Islam."

- .... Hadith twenty-two, and he (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said, "Whoever kills a man, his belongings belong to him." I said: All narrated this except al-Nasa'i from Abu Qatadah al-Ansari, who said: "We went out with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) to Hunayn." And when we met, the Muslims experienced a setback. He said: "Then I saw a man from the polytheists overpowering a man from the Muslims." So I took a turn to him until I approached him from behind and struck him with my sword on the nape of his neck. Then he turned to me and embraced me, and I felt in that embrace the breath of death, but then death overtook him, and he released me, so I went to Umar ibn al-Khattab and said: 'What is the matter with the people?'
