8103 - Ibn Humayd said: Salamah narrated to us from Ibn Ishaq, who said: Then Uthman ibn Affan, Uqbah ibn Uthman, and Sa'd ibn Uthman - two men from the Ansar - turned and ran until they reached the Jala'b, a mountain near Medina towards the direction of the A'ws, and they stayed there for three days before returning to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny). Volume: (7) - Page Number: (329/330)
8104 - Ibn Humayd narrated to us, who said: Salamah narrated to us, from Ibn Ishaq regarding his statement: {Indeed, those who turned away among you on the day the two armies met were simply instigated by Satan due to some of what they had earned, and Allah had certainly forgiven them. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving, Forbearing (Al-Imran 3:155)}. And those whom Satan instigated included Uthman ibn Affan and Sa'd ibn Uthman and 'Uqbah ibn Uthman, both Ansar and then from the Banu Zurayq. As for his statement: {And Allah had certainly forgiven them (Al-Imran 3:155)}, its meaning is that Allah had overlooked those who turned away among you on the day the two armies met, by not punishing them for their turning away from their enemy.

- .... Abu Ja'far said: The people had indeed fled from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) until some of them reached the place of refuge near the Mu'aisir and Uthman ibn Affan escaped along with Uqbah ibn Uthman and Sa'd ibn Uthman, two men from the Ansar, until they reached the Jal'ab, a hill in the area of Medina that overlooks the Mu'aisir. They stayed there for three days and then returned to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny). It is claimed that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said to them: "You have gone a considerable distance in this."
