1166 - And from Zayd, from Abu Ishaq, from al-Alaa ibn Arar, who said: Ibn Umar was asked about Ali and Uthman, and he said: "As for Ali, do not ask about him; look at his position from the Messenger of Allah, for he sealed our doors in the mosque and kept his door open." And as for Uthman, he committed a grave sin on the day the two armies met, but Allah forgave him. "He committed a lesser sin among you, and you killed him."

Volume: (7) - Page Number: (208)
7291 - Muhammad ibn Abbas al-Akhram al-Isbahani narrated to us, saying: Umar ibn Muhammad ibn al-Hasan al-Asadi narrated to us, from my father, from al-Ala ibn Zuhair, from Wabra ibn Abd al-Rahman, who said: We were with Abdullah ibn Umar when a man from the people of Kufa asked him, saying: "O Abu Abd al-Rahman, tell me about Uthman ibn Affan. Did he witness Badr?" He said: "No." The man said: "Allahu Akbar!" He said: "Tell me, did Uthman hold command on the day the two forces met?" He said: "Yes." The man replied: "Allahu Akbar!" He continued: "Tell me, did Uthman witness the day of the Pledge of Ridwan?" He said: "No." The man exclaimed: "Allahu Akbar!" Then he turned to leave, and I said to him: "Stay, I can tell you that the man is from the people of Kufa, and they love Ali and harbor animosity toward Uthman." Abdullah ibn Umar said: "Bring the man." So he was brought, and he said: "You asked me about Uthman witnessing Badr, and I told you no. I will explain that to you. The daughter of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) was ill, and the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said to him: 'Stay with my daughter.' He replied: 'I do not wish to.' The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said to him: 'It is dearer to me to stay with her,' and he regarded it as being of equal reward to witnessing her and gave him a share in the matter." The man said: "Allahu Akbar!" "As for your statement that he was among those who held command on the day the two forces met, Allah has informed us that it has been forgiven." The man responded: "Allahu Akbar!" "And regarding your claim that he did not witness the Pledge of Ridwan, the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) sent Uthman to the people of Mecca. When he was commanded to give the pledge, the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: 'O Allah, Uthman is in need of You and Your Messenger,' and 'This is my hand, and this is the hand of Uthman.'" He struck his hand on his other hand and made the pledge for him. This hadith was not narrated from Wabra except by al-Ala ibn Zuhair, and Muhammad ibn al-Hasan was unique in it.

Al-Tabarani - al-Mu'jam al-Awsat - Chapter on the letter Meem - Those Named Mu'adh
Volume: (8) - Page Number: (232)
8494 - Mu'adh said: Ishaq narrated to us, quoting Abd al-Wahid ibn Ziyad, who said: Kulaib ibn Wa'il narrated to us, from Hani' ibn Qays, who said: I was sitting beside Ibn Umar when a man came to him and said: "O Abu Abd al-Rahman, inform me about Uthman. Did he witness Badr?" He answered: "No." The man continued: "Did he witness the Pledge of Ridwan?" He replied: "No." The man then asked: "Was he among those who took charge on the day the two armies met?" He said: "Yes." Then the man turned away, and Abdullah ibn Umar said to the man: "Is this one now going to tell people that you spoke ill of Uthman?" The man replied: "Did he do that?" Abdullah said: "Yes, that's what he claimed." Then he told the man to return, saying: "Do you know what you just said?" The man replied: "I asked you if Uthman witnessed Badr, and you said no. I asked if he witnessed the Pledge of Ridwan, and you said no. I also asked if he was among those who took charge on the day the two armies met, and you said yes." Abdullah ibn Umar continued: "The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said on the day of Badr: 'Uthman was delayed due to a task from Allah and a task from the Messenger of Allah.'" Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) struck for him a share, but did not strike a share for anyone else who was absent, except for him. He said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) sent Uthman on the day of the Pledge of Ridwan to Mecca to seek permission for the sacrificial animals and entry into Mecca, so Uthman was with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) during the Pledge of Ridwan, intending to enter Mecca." He said: "Uthman is in the service of Allah and His Messenger, so I will pledge to Allah on his behalf." Then he clapped one hand over the other. Allah said: {Indeed, those who turned away from you on the day the two armies met were caused to stumble by Satan because of some of what they had earned. And Allah had certainly forgiven them. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Forbearing} (Surah Al-Imran 3:155). "So go, for Allah has forgiven," Abdullah ibn Umar added, "Now go and strive against him as best you can." None of those who reported this hadith in this chain of narration between Kulaib ibn Wa'il and Habib ibn Abi Miliika, except for Abd al-Wahid ibn Ziyad. Zaydah and others also narrated it from Kulaib ibn Wa'il, from Habib ibn Abi Miliika, from Ibn Umar. Habib ibn Abi Miliika was known as Abu Thawr al-Hadani and was from Murad.
