26489 - Abu Mu'awiya narrated to us, who said: Al-A'mash narrated to us, from Shaqiq, from Umm Salamah, who said: Abd al-Rahman ibn Awf entered upon her and said, "O Umm, I fear that I will be destroyed by the abundance of my wealth. I have more wealth than any other Qurashi." She said, "O my son, spend, for I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) say, 'Some of my companions will not see me after I depart from them.'" So he went out and met Umar, and informed him. Then Umar came and entered upon her and said to her, "By Allah, am I one of them?" She replied, "No, and I will not grieve for anyone after you."

He said that this reached Umar, who then came to her, hurrying or moving quickly, with some uncertainty from Shazdan, and said to her, "I beseech you by Allah, am I one of them?" She replied, "No, and I will not absolve anyone after you, ever."

He said, so he went to Umar and mentioned that to him. Umar then went to her and said: "I remind you of Allah, am I one of them?" She replied: "O Allah, no! I will not befriend anyone after you."

Abd al-Rahman left her, terrified, until he entered upon Umar and said to him: "Listen to what your mother is saying." Umar then stood up and went to her, entered upon her, and asked her. Then he said: "I urge you by Allah, am I one of them?" She replied: "No, and I will not absolve anyone after you."

She said: Spend, my son, for I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) say, "There are some of my companions who will not see me after I am separated from them." So I went to Umar and informed him, and he went to her and said: By Allah, am I one of them? She replied: O Allah, no, and I will not absolve anyone after you.

Umar heard of this and went to them, walking quickly or hastening, and said: "I urge you by Allah, am I one of them?" She replied: "No, and I will not absolve anyone after you, ever." Ahmad, Abu Ya'la, and al-Tabarani narrated it in al-Kabir.

She said: "O my son, give charity, for I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) say that among my companions are those who will not see me after I am separated from them." Then Abd al-Rahman went to Umar and informed him of what Umm Salamah had told him. Umar then entered upon Umm Salamah and said to her: "By Allah, am I one of them?" She replied: "No, and I will not absolve anyone after you."

She said: "Spend, my son, for I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) say: 'Among my companions is one who will not see me again after we part, ever.'"
