Al huzayfa ibn al Yamani (r.a.) knower of secret of Holy Prophet (s.a.w.)

Hadith No: 1

Hudhaifa bin Al-Yaman said, 'The hypocrites of today are worse than those of the lifetime of the Prophet, because in those days they used to do evil deeds secretly but today they do such deeds openly.'

Narrated Abi Asha'sha:

Hudhaifa said, 'In fact, it was hypocrisy that existed in the lifetime of the Prophet (s.a.w.a.) but today it is Kufr (disbelief) after belief.'

Hudhaifa b. al-Yaman reported:

By Allah, I have the best knowledge amongst people about every turmoil which is going to appear in the period intervening me and the Last Hour; and it is not for the fact that Allah's Messenger (s.a.w.a.) told me something confidentially pertaining to it and he did not tell anybody else about it, but it is because of the fact that I was present in the assembly in which he had been describing the turmoil. and he especially made a mention of three turmoils which would not spare anything and amongst these there would be turmoils like storms in the hot season. Some of them would be violent and some of them would be comparatively mild. Hudhaifa said: All (who were present) except I have gone (to the next world).

Hadith No: 4

Hudhaifa reported that Allah's Messenger (s.a.w.a.) stood before us one day and he did not leave anything unsaid (that he had to say) at that very spot which would happen (in the shape of turmoil) up to the Last Hour. Those who had to remember them preserved them in their minds and those who could not remember them forgot them. My friends knew them and there are certain things which slip out of my mind, but I recapitulate them when anyone makes a mention of them just as a person is lost from one's mind but is recalled to him on seeing his face.

Hadith No: 5

Hudhaifa reported:

Allah's Messenger (s.a.w.a.) informed me of what is going to happen before the approach of the Last Hour. And there is nothing that I did not ask him in this connection except this that I did not ask him as to what would turn the people of Medina out from Medina.

- .... Abu Muhammad said: And there are narrations mursal (not directly linked) to Hudhayfah indicating that he knew the hypocrites and that Umar asked him: "Is he one of them?" He replied: "No, and I will not inform anyone after you of something like this." And Umar would look at him, and if Hudhayfah attended a funeral, Umar would be present, but if Hudhayfah did not attend it, Umar would not be there. In some of them, it mentions that there was an elder among them who, if they had tasted (the situation), would not have found any flavor in it. All are non-musnad (not supported by a direct chain of transmission).

- .... And Zayd ibn Wahb said: We were with Hudhayfah, and this is from the narration of al-Bukhari, when Hudhayfah said: "No one remains from the companions of this verse except three," meaning His statement, the Exalted, about them: {So fight against the leaders of disbelief} (Surah At-Tawbah 9:12) to His statement: {and they will not desist} (Surah At-Tawbah 9:12). Hudhayfah continued: "And no one remains from the hypocrites except four." An Arab Bedouin said to him: "You are the companions of Muhammad, informing us of things we do not know. Who are these that are knocking on our doors and stealing our fodder?" He replied: "Those are the transgressors. Indeed, only four of them remain: an old man who, if he drank water, would feel its coolness." Abu Muhammad said: This is all that we have recorded regarding the reports, and none of them serves as a valid proof at all. However, the narration of Malik ibn al-Dakhshun is authentic and is the strongest evidence against them, for the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) informed that the testimony of monotheism would benefit its holder, and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) also said: "We were commanded not to fight those who pray."

16840 - Abu Amr al-Bustami narrated to us, saying: Abu Bakr al-Isma'ili narrated to us, saying: Al-Qasim, who is Ibn Zakariya, narrated to us, saying: Abbas narrated to us, saying: Musa ibn Dawud narrated to us, saying: Hafs ibn Ghiyath narrated to us, from al-A'mash, from Ibrahim from al-Aswad, who said: "Hudhayfa stopped by us while we were with Abdullah and said: 'Hypocrisy has descended upon one who was better than you.'" He said: We replied, "How can this be, when Allah says: {Indeed, the hypocrites are in the lowest depths of the Fire} (Surah an-Nisa, 4:145)?" He said: When they dispersed and none were left but me, he threw a small stone at me and said: "They, when they repented, were better than you." Al-Bukhari and Muslim narrated this in their Sahih from Umar ibn Hafs, from his father, and said in the hadith, as part of Hudhayfa's statement: "I was astonished by his laughter," meaning the laughter of Abdullah, "although he knew what you said: 'Hypocrisy has descended upon a people who were better than you,' and then they repented, so Allah repented on them."

16845 - Abu al-Hasan Ali ibn Ahmad ibn Abdān informed us, saying: Ahmad ibn Ubayd narrated to us, saying: Ubayd ibn Sharīk and Ahmad ibn Ibrahim ibn Malhān both said: Yahya ibn Bakir narrated to us, from al-Layth, from 'Uqayl, from Ibn Shuhbih, who said: 'Urwah ibn al-Zubayr informed me, saying: We have learned that when the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) marched to Tabuk, he descended from his mount, and revelation came to him while he and his mount were stationary. Then it stood up, dragging its reins, until it was met by Hudhayfah ibn al-Yamān, who took hold of its reins and led it until the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) was seen sitting. He then kneeled it down and sat beside it until the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) stood up and came to him. Hudhayfah ibn al-Yamān said: Who is this? He replied: Hudhayfah ibn al-Yamān. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: I will share a secret with you, so do not mention it. I have been forbidden to pray over so-and-so and so-and-so, a group of a certain number of hypocrites, of whom the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) did not know that he mentioned them to anyone except Hudhayfah ibn al-Yamān. When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) passed away, Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) was in his caliphate. If a man died who was believed to be one of those from that group, he would take Hudhayfah's hand and lead him to pray over him. If Hudhayfah walked with him, he would pray over him, and if Hudhayfah pulled his hand away and refused to walk with him, Umar would return with him but would refuse to pray over him, while Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) would command that he be prayed over.
