indecent behaviour of companions with Holy Prophet (s.a.w.)

Hadith No: 1

Narrated `Abdullah:

On the day (of the battle) of Hunain, Allah's Messenger (s.a.w.a.) favored some people in the distribution of the booty (to the exclusion of others); he gave Al-Aqra' bin H`Abis one-hundred camels and he gave 'Uyaina the same amount, and also gave to some of the eminent Arabs, giving them preference in this regard. Then a person came and said, "By Allah, in this distribution justice has not been observed, nor has Allah's Pleasure been aimed at." I said (to him), "By Allah, I will inform the Prophet (of what you have said), "I went and informed him, and he said, "If Allah and His Apostle did not act justly, who else would act justly. May Allah be merciful to Moses, for he was harmed with more than this, yet he kept patient."

Narrated Anas Bin Malik:

When Allah gave Allah's Messenger (s.a.w.a.) what he gave of the properties of the Hawazin tribe as a war booty, the Prophet (s.a.w.a.) started giving some men 100 camels each. The Ansar (then) said, "May Allah forgive Allah's Messenger (s.a.w.a.)s as he gives to Quraish and leaves us although our swords are still dribbling with the blood of Quraish." Allah Apostle was informed of their statement, so he sent for the Ansar and gathered them in a leather tent, and did not call anybody else along with them. When they al I gathered, the Prophet (s.a.w.a.) got up and said, "What is this talk being informed to me about you?" The learned men amongst the Ansar said, "O Allah's Messenger (s.a.w.a.)! Our chiefs did not say anything, but some people amongst us who are younger in age said. 'May Allah forgive Allah's Messenger (s.a.w.a.) as he gives (of the booty) to Quraish and leaves us though our swords are still dribbling with their blood." The Prophet (s.a.w.a.) said, "I give to these men who have newly deserted heathenism (and embraced Islam) so as to attract their hearts. Won't you be happy that the people take the wealth while you take the Prophet (s.a.w.a.) with you to your homes? By Allah, what you are taking is better than whatever they are taking." They (i.e. the Ansar) said, "O Allah's Messenger (s.a.w.a.)! We are satisfied." The Prophet (s.a.w.a.) then said to them. "You will find others favored over you greatly, so be patient till you meet Allah and His Apostle and I will be at the Tank then." Anas added: But they did not remain patient.

Narrated `Abdullah:

When it was the day of Hunain, Prophet favored some people over some others (in the distribution of the booty). He gave Al-Aqra' one-hundred camels and gave Uyaina the same, and also gave other people (of Quraish). A man said, "Allah's Pleasure was not the aim, in this distribution." I said, "I will inform the Prophet (about your statement)." The Prophet (s.a.w.a.) said, "May Allah bestow Mercy on Moses, for he was troubled more this but he remained patient."

Narrated Muhammad bin Jubair:

Jubair bin Mut`im told me that while he was in the company of Allah's Messenger (s.a.w.a.) with the people returning from Hunain, some people (bedouins) caught hold of the Prophet (s.a.w.a.) and started begging of him so much so that he had to stand under a (kind of thorny tree (i.e. Samurah) and his cloak was snatched away. The Prophet (s.a.w.a.) stopped and said, "Give me my cloak. If I had as many camels as these thorny trees, I would have distributed them amongst you and you will not find me a miser or a liar or a coward."

Narrated Abu Sa`id Al-Khudri:

While we were with Allah's Messenger (s.a.w.a.) who was distributing (i.e. some property), there came Dhu-l- Khuwaisira, a man from the tribe of Bani Tamim and said, "O Allah's Messenger (s.a.w.a.)! Do Justice." The Prophet said, "Woe to you! Who could do justice if I did not? I would be a desperate loser if I did not do justice." `Umar said, "O Allah's Messenger (s.a.w.a.)! Allow me to chop his head off." The Prophet (s.a.w.a.) said, "Leave him, for he has companions who pray and fast in such a way that you will consider your fasting negligible in comparison to theirs. They recite Qur'an but it does not go beyond their throats (i.e. they do not act on it) and they will desert Islam as an arrow goes through a victim's body, so that the hunter, on looking at the arrow's blade, would see nothing on it; he would look at its Risaf and see nothing: he would look at its Na,di and see nothing, and he would look at its Qudhadh ( 1 ) and see nothing (neither meat nor blood), for the arrow has been too fast even for the blood and excretions to smear. The sign by which they will be recognized is that among them there will be a black man, one of whose arms will resemble a woman's breast or a lump of meat moving loosely. Those people will appear when there will be differences amongst the people." I testify that I heard this narration from Allah's Messenger (s.a.w.a.) and I testify that `Ali bin Abi Talib fought with such people, and I was in his company. He ordered that the man (described by the Prophet (s.a.w.a.) ) should be looked for. The man was brought and I looked at him and noticed that he looked exactly as the Prophet (s.a.w.a.) had described him.

Umar b. Khattab (Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.a.) distributed something. Upon this I said:

Messenger of Allah, I swear by God, the others besides them were more deserving than these (to whom you gave charity). He said: They had in fact left no other alternative for me. but (that they should) either beg importunately from me or they would regard me as a miser, but I am not a miser.

Jabir b. Abdullah reported that a person came to the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.a.) at Jirana on his way back from Hunain, and there was in the clothes of Bilal some silver. The Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.a.) took a handful out of that and bestowed it upon the people. He (the person who had met the Prophet at Ji'rana) said to him:

Muhammad, do justice. He (the Holy Prophet) said: Woe be upon thee, who would do justice if I do not do justice, and you would be very unfortunate and a loser if I do not do justice. Upon this Umar b. Khattab (Allah be pleased with him) said: Permit me to kill this hypocrite. Upon this he (the Holy Prophet) said: May there be protection of Allah! People would say that I kill my companions. This man and his companions would recite the Qur'an but it would not go beyond their throat, and they swerve from it just as the arrow goes through the prey.

We said to him: Did you witness the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) when he was spoken to by the man from Tamim on the Day of Hunayn? He said: Yes, a man from the Banu Tamim came, called Dhul-Khuwaysira, and stood before him while he was giving people and said: O Muhammad, I have seen what you did on this day. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: Yes, and how did you see it? He replied: I did not see you being just. The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) then became angry and said: Woe to you! If there is no justice with me, then with whom will there be justice? Umar ibn al-Khattab said: O Messenger of Allah, should I not kill him? He replied: No, leave him, for he will have followers who will delve deeply in religion until they emerge from it, like an arrow from a shoot. They will look in the fletching and find nothing, then in the nock and find nothing, then in the shaft and find nothing. They will have preceded the waste and the blood.

- And al-Tirmidhi said in the Shama'il: Harun ibn Musa ibn Abi Alqamah al-Madinì narrated to us, saying: My father narrated to me from Hisham ibn Sa'd from Zayd ibn Aslam from his father from Umar ibn al-Khattab that a man came to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) and asked him to give him something. He said: "I have nothing to give you, but buy something on credit from me, and when something comes to me, I will repay you." Umar said: "O Messenger of Allah, you have given him something, but God has not commanded you to do what you cannot handle." The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) disliked Umar's statement. Then a man from the Ansar said: "O Messenger of Allah, spend, and do not fear scarcity from the One who sits upon the Throne." The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) smiled, and the smile was evident on his face at the words of the Ansari, and he said: "This is what I was commanded." And in the hadith, he added: "However, they will continue to ask me, while Allah refuses to grant me stinginess."

- Al-Layth ibn Sa'd said from Yahya ibn Sa'id, from Abu al-Zubair, from Jabir ibn Abdullah, who said: A man came to the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) at al-Ji'ranah as he was returning from Hunayn, wearing Bilal's robe of silver, while the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) was taking from it and giving to the people. He said: O Muhammad, be just. The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) replied: Woe to you! Who can be just if I am not just? You have failed and lost out if I am not just. Umar ibn al-Khattab said: Let me kill this hypocrite, O Messenger of Allah. He replied: God forbid that people should say I kill my companions! This man and his companions will read the Quran, but it will not pass their throats. They will swerve from it as an arrow swerves from a target. And Muslim narrated it from Muhammad ibn Rumh from al-Layth.

One of you will despise his prayer compared to their prayer and his fast compared to their fast. They will recite the Qur'an, but it will not pass beyond their throats.
