10372 - Abu al-Ghadiah al-Muzani was distinguished from the Jahni by more than one person and Ibn Sa'd disagreed with them saying: Among those who settled in Basra from the companions (of the Prophet) was Abu al-Ghadiah al-Muzani, who fought (in the Battle of) Aamr (with) Ammar.
- Muslim stated in Al-Kunya: Abu al-Ghadiah al-Muzani, Yasar ibn Sab' (fought) Ammar; he had companionship (with the Prophet).
- An-Nasa'i said something similar: except that he added, and he had companionship.
- Ibn Hibban said in the third generation of the trustworthy: "Abu al-Ghadiah al-Muzani, Yasar ibn Sab', narrates mursal reports." I say, calling him by that name is an error; his name is actually al-Jahni.

1364 - Abu al-Ghadiah al-Juhani, whose name was Yasar ibn Sab'ah, though some said otherwise, lived in Greater Syria and settled in Wasit. He met the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) and heard from him his saying: "Do not revert after me as disbelievers, striking the necks of one another." He narrated from him, including Kulthum ibn Jubr and others, and he was an admirer of Uthman. He is the one who killed Ammar ibn Yasir. When he sought permission to enter from Muawiyah or others, he would say: "The killer of Ammar is at the door," boasting of it. And look at the amazement: he narrates from the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) the prohibition of killing, yet he kills someone like Ammar. I say: He settled in Wasit al-Qasab and lived a long life.
- Al-Bukhari said in Tarikh: Yasar ibn Sab'ah: Abu al-Ghadiah al-Juhani heard the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny).
- Ibn Abi Hatim said from his father the same, and added that he had companionship (of the Prophet).
- Al-Bukhari also narrated this in Tarikh al-Kabir, as did Ya'qub ibn Sufyan, both from Duhim, and Ibn Sam'i' said in (Tabaqat al-Tabi'in): Yasar ibn Sab'ah narrated from Uthman, and it is said that he had companionship (of the Prophet).
- Ibn Sa'd said: Among those who settled in Basra from the companions was Abu al-Ghadiah al-Madani, the killer of Ammar.
- Khalifah said: And from Juhaynah, Abu al-Ghadiah lived in Greater Syria, and it is narrated that he heard the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) say: "Indeed, your blood and your wealth are sacred to you."
- Muslim said in al-Kuna: Abu al-Ghadiah, Yasar ibn Sab'ah, the killer of Ammar, had companionship (of the Prophet).
- Abu Ahmad al-Hakim also regarded him as having been Juhani, stating that he heard from the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) and was the killer of Ammar.
- Ibn Hibban said in al-Sahabah: Yasar ibn Sab'ah, Abu al-Ghadiah al-Juhani, had companionship (of the Prophet), and in the third generation, he said: Those who followed the followers, Yasar ibn Sab'ah, Abu al-Ghadiah al-Mazani, narrated inauthentic reports (marasil). I have not seen this stated by anyone else, but the statements of most of them indicate that he is one and that there is a disagreement about whether he is Juhani or Mazani.

- .... And it is known that Ammar was in the army of Ali on the Day of Siffin, and he was killed by the companions of Muawiya from the people of Syria. The one who undertook to kill him was a man said to be Abu al-Ghadiya, a man of small stature, and it was said that he was a companion.
- .... Abu Umar ibn Abd al-Barr and others mentioned Abu al-Ghadiya in the list of companions, stating that he was a Muslim. It was also said that he was Sar ibn Uzayhir al-Juhani from Qudaa'ah, and others said he was a Mazni. Some claimed there were two men with these names who settled in Syria and then went to Wasit. Ahmad narrated a hadith from him, and he had another hadith with different narrators. They said, and he is the killer of Ammar ibn Yasir, and he would describe the manner of Ammar's killing without shying away from it. We will mention his biography in the context of Ammar's death during the days of Muawiya at the Battle of Siffin, and those who said he was a participant in the Battle of Badr were mistaken.

He said: There was some exchange between me and Ammar ibn Yasir regarding something, and he complained to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny). He said: O Khalid, do not harm Ammar, for he is one whom Allah loves. Whoever hates Ammar, Allah hates him; and whoever opposes Ammar, Allah opposes him.' He continued: I later encountered him and alleviated what was in his heart. He has many narrations about his virtues (peace be upon him). He was killed at Siffin at the age of ninety-four, either from one, three, or four wounds. He was stabbed by Abu al-Ghadiah and fell, then a man fell upon him and severed his head. Then they both argued before Muawiya about which of them killed him. Amr ibn al-As said to them, "Are you unaware? By Allah, you are both arguing in the Fire."'

When he sat down, he said: We used to consider Ammar one of the best among us. While I was in the Mosque of Quba, he was saying something and mentioning a word, adding that if he had found allies against it, he would have acted. Then, on the day of Siffin, he came walking at the front of the battalion, and a man stabbed him. His helmet was knocked off, and he struck back, only to find that it was Ammar's head. A freedman of ours was saying: I have not seen a clearer misguidance than this.

6147 - Abu al-Ghadayah al-Juhani, Abu al-Ghadayah al-Juhani‏‏ pledged allegiance to the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny),‏ and Juhaynah ibn Zayd was a tribe of Qudaa'ah. There is a dispute regarding his name; some say it was Yasar ibn Uzhayr, while others say his name was Muslim. He settled in the Levant and is considered among the people of the Levant and later moved to Wasit. Abu Umar said: He saw the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) while he was a boy. It is narrated from him that he said: I saw the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) while I was still youthful, tending to my family's sheep. Muhammad al-Wahhab ibn Hibat Allah informed us with his chain of narration from Abdullah ibn Ahmad, who said: My father told me, saying: Abd al-Samad ibn Abd al-Warith narrated to us, saying: Rabi'ah ibn Kulthum narrated to us from his father, from Abu al-Ghadayah, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) addressed us on the morning of Aqabah and said: "Know that your blood and your property are sacred to you until you meet your Lord, as the sanctity of this day, in this place, in this month." Then he asked, "Did I convey this?" They replied, "Yes." He was among the supporters of Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him). He was also the killer of Ammar ibn Yasir, and when he would seek permission to enter from Muawiyah or others, he would say: 'The killer of Ammar is at the door.' He would describe Ammar's killing if asked about it as if he did not care. There is something remarkable about his story among the people of knowledge, and he narrated from the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) a prohibition against killing, yet he would kill one like Ammar. We ask Allah for safety.
Ibn Abi Dunayya narrated from Muhammad ibn Abi Ma'shar, from his father, who said: While al-Hajjaj was sitting, a man with a similar gait approached. When al-Hajjaj saw him, he said: "Welcome, Abu al-Ghadayah," and seated him on his throne, saying: "You killed Ibn Sumayyah." He replied: "Yes." Al-Hajjaj asked: "How did you do it?" He said: "I did it like this until I killed him." Then al-Hajjaj said to the people of the Levant: "Whoever wishes to see a man with a great reach on the Day of Resurrection should look at this one." Abu al-Ghadayah then spoke to him in a low voice, asking him something, but he refused. Abu al-Ghadayah said: "We will trample them in this world, then ask them, and they will not give us," and he claimed that I am a man with a great reach on the Day of Resurrection. Indeed, Allah, it is true that one whom I struck was like Uhud, and his thigh was like Wurqan, and his place was like the distance between Medina and al-Rubadhah, is truly a man with a great reach on the Day of Resurrection. By Allah, if Ammar had been killed by the people of the earth, they would have entered the Fire, and it would be said that the one who killed Ammar was someone else." This is the most well-known account, and all three historians mentioned it.

He was fond of Uthman ibn Affan and heard Ammar describing Uthman with a word he did not approve of. So, on the day of Siffin, when Ammar was with Ali, Abu al-Ghadiah saw him in the army of Muawiyah and killed him. Abu Ghadiya said: We will tread upon them in this world and then ask them, but they will not give us, yet he claims that I am a man of great reach on the Day of Resurrection. So, when Ammar was killed, Khuzaymah said: "Misguidedness has shown its face," then he approached and fought until he was killed. And it was Abu Ghadiyah al-Murri who killed Ammar, stabbing him with his spear, and he fell. He was killed at the age of ninety-four years. When he fell, another man jumped on him and severed his head. They quarreled over it, and Amr said: "They are not quarreling except in the Fire." Muawiyah said: "Do you say this to a people who risked their lives for us?" Amr replied: "By God, it is that, and you know it. I wish I had died twenty years before this."

A man entered, resembling a man but seeming not to be of this nation. When he sat down, he said: "I pledged allegiance to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny)." Then, on the day of Siffin, he came in at the head of the battalion, and when he was between the two armies, a man stabbed him in the knee with a spear, causing him to stumble, and his helmet was knocked off, revealing his head. I struck him, and it was the head of Ammar ibn Yasir on the ground," or words to that effect. "I did not see a man clearer in his misguidance than Abu al-Ghadiah. He heard from the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) about Ammar what he heard, and then he killed him." He then called for water, and it was brought to him in a glass pitcher, but he did not drink it. He was then brought water in an earthenware vessel, and he drank it. A man in al-Nabatiyyah said: "He would not drink from the glass, yet he did not hesitate to kill Ammar."

- .... Abu al-Ghadiah witnessed the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) and it is narrated that he fought against Ammar ibn Yasir (peace be upon him). It is said that the one who killed him was Huwi ibn Mati' al-Sukki, the grandfather of Nuh ibn Amr, who was with Ishaq ibn Ibrahim ibn Mus'ab al-Khorasani. They mentioned that five men were involved in Ammar's death, may Allah have mercy on him, and each claimed to have killed him. Abu al-Ghadiah was the one who severed his head. Abu Firas Muhammad ibn Firas al-Sulami told me that he heard from Hisham, from his father, who said: I was at the door of al-Walid ibn Abd al-Malik when a large, red-bearded elder approached, with the words (Witnessed the Opening of Openings) written between his shoulders. They used to call the killing of Ammar (the Opening of Openings). He said to the doorkeeper: "Ask permission for me and say: This is Abu al-Ghadiah, the killer of Ammar." Al-Kulabi said: So I took his hand and said to him, "By your father, you have indeed fattened the opponent."
