Abu al-Ghadayah al-Juhani, Abu al-Ghadayah al-Juhani pledged allegiance to the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), and Juhaynah ibn Zayd was a tribe of Qudaa'ah. There is a dispute regarding his name; some say it was Yasar ibn Uzhayr, while others say his name was Muslim. He settled in the Levant and is considered among the people of the Levant and later moved to Wasit.
Abu Umar said: He saw the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) while he was a boy. It is narrated from him that he said: I saw the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) while I was still youthful, tending to my family's sheep. Muhammad al-Wahhab ibn Hibat Allah informed us with his chain of narration from Abdullah ibn Ahmad, who said: My father told me, saying: Abd al-Samad ibn Abd al-Warith narrated to us, saying: Rabi'ah ibn Kulthum narrated to us from his father, from Abu al-Ghadayah, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) addressed us on the morning of Aqabah and said: "Know that your blood and your property are sacred to you until you meet your Lord, as the sanctity of this day, in this place, in this month." Then he asked, "Did I convey this?" They replied, "Yes." He was among the supporters of Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him).
He was also the killer of Ammar ibn Yasir, and when he would seek permission to enter from Muawiyah or others, he would say: 'The killer of Ammar is at the door.' He would describe Ammar's killing if asked about it as if he did not care. There is something remarkable about his story among the people of knowledge, and he narrated from the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) a prohibition against killing, yet he would kill one like Ammar. We ask Allah for safety.
Ibn Abi Dunayya narrated from Muhammad ibn Abi Ma'shar, from his father, who said: While al-Hajjaj was sitting, a man with a similar gait approached.
When al-Hajjaj saw him, he said: "Welcome, Abu al-Ghadayah," and seated him on his throne, saying: "You killed Ibn Sumayyah." He replied: "Yes." Al-Hajjaj asked: "How did you do it?" He said: "I did it like this until I killed him." Then al-Hajjaj said to the people of the Levant: "Whoever wishes to see a man with a great reach on the Day of Resurrection should look at this one." Abu al-Ghadayah then spoke to him in a low voice, asking him something, but he refused. Abu al-Ghadayah said: "We will trample them in this world, then ask them, and they will not give us," and he claimed that I am a man with a great reach on the Day of Resurrection. Indeed, Allah, it is true that one whom I struck was like Uhud, and his thigh was like Wurqan, and his place was like the distance between Medina and al-Rubadhah, is truly a man with a great reach on the Day of Resurrection. By Allah, if Ammar had been killed by the people of the earth, they would have entered the Fire, and it would be said that the one who killed Ammar was someone else." This is the most well-known account, and all three historians mentioned it.
