- Muhammad ibn Abdullah al-Hafiz narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Abdullah al-Saffar narrated to us, saying: Ahmad ibn Muhammad al-Barti narrated to us, saying: Abu Na'im narrated to us, from Sufyan, from Salamah ibn Kuhayl, from a man from his father. Sufyan said: "I think he was Iyad,"
from Abu Mas'ud, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) addressed us and said: 'Indeed, among you are hypocrites, so whoever I name, let him stand.' And thirty-six stood up. He then said: "Indeed, there are or among you hypocrites, so ask Allah for safety." Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) passed by a man who was covered and whom he recognized, and said: "What is the matter with you?" The man informed him of what the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) had said. Umar replied: "Woe to you, for the rest of the day!" And Abu Abdullah al-Hafiz narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Abdullah narrated to us, saying: Ahmad narrated to us, saying: Abu Hudhayfah narrated to us, from Sufyan, from Salamah, from Iyad ibn Iyad, from his father, from Abu Mas'ud, who said: "The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) addressed us and mentioned this."
