Letter Ha - Volume One - Ha followed by Ya - Heyt the Eunuch
Volume: (6) - Page Number: (440 > 442)

9040 - (Heyt the Eunuch): He was mentioned in Sahih al-Bukhari through the narration of Sufyan ibn Uthbah from Hisham ibn Urwah from his father, from Zaynab bint Abi Sulaym, from Umm Sulaymah, who said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) entered upon me while I had an eunuch with me" and I heard him say to Abdullah ibn Abi Umiya, "If Allah grants you victory over Ta'if, then you should seek out the daughter of Ghaylan, for she comes with four and backs up with eight." The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said, "This one should not enter upon you." Sufyan Ibn Jurayj said, "The name of the eunuch was Heyt," and the hadith is found in Muslim, Abu Dawud, and al-Nasa'i without naming him.
- Abd al-Malik ibn Habib narrated in Al-Wadihah from Habib, a secretary of Malik, who said: "I said to Malik that Sufyan added in the hadith of the daughter of Ghaylan that there was an eunuch named Heyt." Malik replied, "He speaks the truth, and it is so," and that the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) secluded him to al-Himyah. Abu Umar said in al-Tamhid, "This is not well-known from Sufyan; rather, Sufyan mentioned it from Ibn Jurayj."
- Al-Juzjani narrated in his Tarikh from the way of al-Awza'i from al-Zuhri from Ali ibn Husayn: "There was an eunuch who used to enter upon the wives of the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) named Heyt." Similarly, Abi Ya'la narrated it from the way of Yunus from al-Zuhri from Urwah from Aisha, mentioning the essence of the story, including that Heyt used to enter." It is in the sahih from the way of Ma'mar from al-Zuhri, without naming him.
- Al-Mustaghfiri narrated from the way of Dawood ibn Bakr from ibn al-Munkadir: "That the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) expelled Heyt with two words he spoke, resembling the speech of women." He said to Abdul Rahman ibn Abi Bakr, "If you conquer Ta'if tomorrow, then you should seek out the daughter of Ghaylan, for she comes with four and backs up with eight." When this reached the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), he said, "Do not let them enter your homes."
- Ibn Abi Shaybah and Ahmad ibn Ibrahim al-Durqi narrated in their Musnads from the way of Muhammad ibn Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Layla from Abd al-Karim from Mujahid from Amir ibn Sa'd ibn Malik from his father that he proposed to a woman in Mecca and said, 'Who can tell me about her?' A eunuch named Heyt said: "I can describe her to you. When she comes, she comes walking on two legs, and when she goes, she leaves walking on four." The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said, "I see nothing but denial, and I do not think he knows women." Heyt used to enter upon Sawdah, and the Prophet forbade her from entering upon him. When he returned to Medina, he expelled him, and he was like that until the era of Umar, and he exerted himself. It was permitted for him to enter Medina and be given alms on Fridays. Ibn Wahb mentioned in his Jam'e that someone who heard Abu Ma'shar say: "He was ordered by the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) to be exiled to a mountain pass near the city at Dhul-Hulayfah." Some of the companions interceded for him, saying, "He will die of hunger," so he was allowed to enter every Friday to seek food and then return to his place. He remained there until he passed away. A portion of his story had been mentioned earlier in the biography of Man' and Abu Ubeyd al-Bakri said in Sharh Amali al-Qali: "There were three eunuchs in Medina who would enter among the women without being concealed: Heyt, Haddam, and Man'."

- His statement: (effeminate): It was mentioned earlier in the Expedition of Ta'if that his name was Heit, and that Ibn Uyaynah mentioned him from Ibn Jurayj without the chain of narration.
- Ibn Habib mentioned in al-Wadihah from Habib, a scribe of Malik, who said: I said to Malik that Sufyan ibn Uyaynah added in the narration about the daughter of Ghilan: that the effeminate one was Heit, and Heit is not mentioned in your book. He said: He is correct; it is indeed so.
- Al-Jawzajani reported in his Tarikh from the path of al-Zuhri from Ali ibn al-Husayn ibn Ali, who said: There was an effeminate man who would enter upon the wives of the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) called Heit.
- Abi Ya'la, Abu 'Awānah, and Ibn Hibban all narrated from the route of Yunus, from al-Zuhri, from Urwah that Aisha said Heit would enter, the narration continues.
- Al-Mustaghfiri narrated from the marasil of Muhammad ibn al-Munkadir that the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) expelled Heit in two sentences he spoke regarding women's matters.
- Ibn Abi Shaybah, al-Dawrqi, Abi Ya'la, and al-Bazzar narrated from the path of Amir ibn Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas from his father that the name of the effeminate man was Heit as well, but he mentioned another story in it.
- Abu Musa al-Madini reported a discussion about whether Mat'i was a nickname for Heit or vice versa, or if they were two different individuals, in contrast to others, and al-Waqidi was certain of their plurality. He stated that Heit was the freedman of Abdullah ibn Abi Umayyah and Mat'i was the freedman of Fakhita, and mentioned that the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) expelled them both together to the area of Hima.
- Al-Barudi mentioned in the companions from the path of Ibrahim ibn Muhajir from Abu Bakr ibn Hafs that Aisha said to an effeminate man in Medina named (Anah) with a pronounced alif and a geminated noon: "Won't you help us find a woman to propose to for Abdul Rahman ibn Abi Bakr?" He replied, "Yes," and described a woman who would approach with four steps and retreat with eight. The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) heard this and said: "Anah, leave Medina for Hamrat al-Asad, and make your home there." It is more probable that the name mentioned in the narration of this chapter is Heit, and it is not impossible that they share the description given. It was noted earlier in the Expedition of Ta'if that Heit was identified.
- His statement: (So he said to the brother of Umm Salama): .... There was also a narration regarding Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas that he proposed to a woman in Mecca and said, "Who can inform me about her?" An effeminate man named Heit said, "I can describe her to you," so these are incidents that occurred with Heit.
- His statement: (And the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said, "Let not this one enter upon you"): In the narration of al-Kushmayhani, it states "upon you all," which is the narration of Muslim, and it was added at the end of the last narration from al-Zuhri, from Urwah, from Aisha: The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said, "I do not see that this one understands what is happening here; he should not enter upon you." Aisha then said they excluded him, and Abu Ya'la added in his narration from the path of Yunus at the end that he would be found in Bi'da, entering every Friday to beg for food. Ibn Kalbi added in his narration that the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said, "You have surely peered at her, O enemy of Allah," and then expelled him from the city to Hima. It occurred in the narration about Sa'd that I referenced earlier that he proposed to a woman in Mecca and Heit said, "I can describe her to you": When she approached, I would say she walked with six steps, and when she turned away, I would say she walked with four," and he would enter upon Sawdah. The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said, "I do not see it as anything but denial," so he forbade him, and when he returned to Medina, he expelled him.

You would have to meet the daughter of Ghaylan, for she comes to you with four [dresses] and leaves with eight." 16983 - Abu al-Husayn ibn Bishran narrated to us in Baghdad, saying: Al-Husayn ibn Safwan narrated to us, saying: Abdullah ibn Abi Dulfiya narrated to us, saying: al-Hasan ibn Hammad al-Dabi narrated to us, from Abda, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, from Yazid from Musa ibn Abd al-Rahman ibn Iyash ibn Abi Rabi'a, who said: During the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), there were three eunuchs: Mata'ih, and Hidam, and Hayit. Mata'ih was the one who was with Fakhta, the daughter of Amr ibn Aydh, the aunt of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny). He would visit the houses of the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) and enter them until, when he besieged al-Ta'if, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) heard him saying to Khalid ibn al-Walid, "If al-Ta'if is conquered tomorrow, do not let Badiya ibn Ghaylan escape from you, for she comes with four and departs with eight." The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said, "I do not see this vile one being aware of this. He will not enter upon you after this with his women." Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) set out, returning, until when he was at Dhul-Hulayfa, he said, "Let him not enter Medina." And the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) entered Medina. He was spoken to regarding this, and it was said to him that he was a poor man and that he needed something. So the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) assigned him a day to enter each week, where he could ask for what he needed and then return to his home. He remained like this during the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), and of Abu Bakr, and during the time of Umar (may Allah be pleased with them). And the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) expelled his two companions with him: Hidam and the other, Hayit.

16776 - And the second banishment is narrated from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) as an unbroken chain: that he banished two effeminate men who were in Medina, one of whom was called Heit and the other Mat'ih. It is preserved regarding one of them that he was banished to al-Humayth, and that he resided in that place during the lifetime of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), the lifetime of Abu Bakr, and the lifetime of Umar. It is also noted that he complained of confinement, so some of the imams permitted him to enter Medina on a Friday to shop for one day and then return.

2180 - That a effeminate person, with the nun pronounced both with a kasra and a fathah, is one who resembles women in his demeanor, speech, and movements, as well as in appearance. His name is Heit, pronounced with a kasra on the ha, followed by a bottom thaa that is not pronounced, and another thaa above it. It is said that he is Hnb, with a nun and a ha that is not pronounced, and it is also said he is Maatin, with the upper thaa, a freedman of Fakhita al-Makhzumiyya, daughter of Ghailan. Her name is Badia, and some say Badina. She can bend on four and turn with eight, that is, from the bulkiness. Al-Nawawi said (14/163): Abu Ubayd and other scholars said that this means she has four bulges she can present with from each direction, two in each direction, and each one has two ends. When she turns, the ends become eight. And they recited to him the words of Ka'b ibn Zuhayr: "She presented four of these on the back of four, and they are eight with their double curves." This means that these people will not enter before you, referring to all effeminate individuals.

- .... And in the Sahih of Ibn Hibban from Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her): The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) entered while Heit was describing a woman from the Jews, and he (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) took him out (of the house). Heit would then be in al-Bid'a, coming every Friday to seek food.
- .... And in the Musnad of Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas, it is mentioned that he proposed to a woman in Mecca while he was with the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) and said, "I have neither anyone to see her nor anyone to inform me about her." Heit then said, "I can describe her to you. If she comes towards you, she will come with six (others)," and if she turns away, she will turn with four. He would enter upon Sawda, and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said, "I do not see him except as disapproving," so he prevented him, and when he returned to Medina, he expelled him.
- .... Ibn Sayyarah stated, and Ibn Jurayj said: The effeminate one, Heit, is also mentioned. That is, Sufyan ibn Uyaynah and Abd al-Malik ibn Abd al-Aziz ibn Jurayj said: The name of the effeminate one mentioned in the hadith is to be pronounced with a broken ha and a silent ya at the end, and a final ta that is two-dot above. It is also said to be pronounced with an opened ha, and it was found written as such by some of the earlier virtuous scholars. Others said it is Henb, with a silent nun after a broken ha and a final unified ba. Ibn Darstawayh said: This is correct, and everything else is a misreading.

Kitab al-Iddah - Chapter on Expelling Those Who Imitate Women from Homes
Volume: (22) - Page Number: (42)

5887 - Malik ibn Isma'il narrated to us, saying: Zuhair narrated to us, saying: Hisham ibn Urwah narrated to us, that Urwah informed him that Zainab, the daughter of Ubayy Salamah, informed him that Umm Salamah told her that the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) was with her and there was a effeminate man in the house. He said to Abd Allah, the brother of Umm Salamah: "O Abd Allah, if tomorrow the city of Ta'if is opened to you, I will guide you to a daughter of Ghaylan, for she comes with four and goes with eight." The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "Let not these enter upon you." (See Hadith 4324 and its continuation.) Its relevance to the chapter can be understood from his statement: "Let not these enter upon you," as it means he expelled them from the house and thereafter forbade them from entering upon her and others like her from effeminate men. Zuhair is a diminutive form of Zuhr ibn Muawiyah al-Ju'fi, and Zainab, the daughter of Ubayy Salamah, and Abu Salamah's name was Abd Allah ibn Abd al-Asad. Zainab was a stepdaughter of the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), the sister of Umar ibn Ubayy Salamah, and their mother was Umm Salamah, the wife of the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), whose name was Hind bint Abi Umayyah. The hadith was mentioned at the beginning of the Chapter on the Expedition to Ta'if, for it was narrated there from al-Humaydi, from Sufyan, from Hisham, from his father, from Zainab .... and so on. It was also mentioned at the end of the Book of Marriage in the Chapter on What is Prohibited Regarding the Entry of Those Who Imitate Women in the Presence of People, for it was narrated there from 'Uthman ibn Abi Shaybah, from Abda, from Hisham ibn Urwah .... and so on. The discussion on this topic has already been covered. His statement: (and there was an effeminate man in the house), and his name was Hiyat, with the 'h' pronounced softly and the 'ya' not pronounced, ending in the letter 't' with a dot above it. Some said he was called Hanb, with an 'n' and a single 'b'.

Chapter on What Has Been Narrated Regarding the Effeminate Among Men and Who Is Most Deserving of the Child
Volume: (7) - Page Number: (286 / 288)
- Abdullah ibn Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to me, who said: Muhammad ibn Ahmad narrated to me, who said: Yahya ibn Muhammad ibn Ziyad narrated to me, who said: Ahmad ibn Abd al-Jabbar narrated to me, who said: Yunus ibn Bakir narrated to me, from Hisham ibn Urwah, from his father, from Zaynab bint Umm Salamah, from Umm Salamah, who said: "I had an effeminate person (mukhannath) with me who said to my brother Abdullah: 'If Allah opens Ta'if for you tomorrow, I will guide you to the daughter of Ghaylan, for she comes with four and goes with eight.'" When the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) heard this, he said: "These should not enter upon you." And he narrated from Yunus ibn Bakir, from Ibn Ishaq, who said: There was also with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) a freedman of his aunt, Fikhteh bint Amr ibn Uday, an effeminate person (mukhannath) named Mat'i, who would enter upon the women of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) and be in his house, and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) did not think he would perceive anything of the women's affairs that men could perceive, nor did he think he had any notion in that regard. He heard him say to Khalid ibn al-Walid: "O Khalid, if the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) opens Ta'if, do not let a daughter of Ghaylan ibn Salamah escape from you, for she comes with four and goes with eight." When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) heard this from him, he said: "I do not think this vile one perceives what I am hearing." Then he said to his wives: "Do not let them enter upon you," and he barred them from the houses of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny). Thus, Ibn Ishaq said about this effeminate person (mukhannath) that his name was Mat'i, and no one else mentioned it to my knowledge. Most, however, held that his name was Heyt. Likewise, Habib mentioned it as Malik did. Ibn Uyaynah narrated from Ibn Jurayj that the name of that effeminate person (mukhannath) was Hayth, and this is also the view of al-Waqidi and Ibn al-Kalbi. Ibn Ishaq said: "There was with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) a freedman of his aunt, Fikhteh bint Amr ibn Uday ibn Imran ibn Makhzum al-Makhzum," and Ibn al-Kalbi said that Heyt, the effeminate person (mukhannath), was a freedman of Abdullah ibn Umayyah, the brother of Umm Salamah. He said that Tawis was also a freedman of Abdullah ibn Abi Umayyah.
- In the narration of Ibn al-Kalbi and al-Waqidi: this effeminate person (mukhannath), Heyt, said to Abdullah ibn Abi Umayyah, who was Umm Salamah's brother from their father's side and a slave woman from the family of Atikah: "O Abdullah" - while he was with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) in the house of Umm Salamah - "if you open Ta'if, you should pay attention to the daughter of Ghaylan ibn Salamah al-Thaqafi, for she comes with four and goes with eight, with a face like a chamomile flower. If she sits, she will sway, and if she speaks, she will sing, between her legs like a covered vessel." The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) heard this, and he said: "I believe this enemy of Allah has scrutinized her closely." Then he sent her away from the city to the mountainous area. He said: "When Ta'if was opened, Abd al-Rahman ibn Awf married her, and she bore him a child named Bariah." This is the statement of Ibn al-Kalbi. Heyt remained in that place until the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) passed away. When Abu Bakr became the caliph, he was interceded for, but he refused to return him. When Umar became the caliph, he was interceded for again, and it was said: "He has grown old and weak and is in need," so he was allowed to enter every Friday, ask people, and then return to his place. As for the statement that she comes with four and goes with eight, Habib explained it as Malik did, and others mentioned it in greater detail, meaning that a woman, described by the effeminate person (mukhannath), is one who has four swellings in her abdomen that reach her waist, giving her four limbs at each waist, making a total of eight: four from here and four from there. Thus, when she approaches you and you face her, you will see four swellings in her abdomen, and when she turns away, you will see eight from the limbs in her waists." This is how everyone who spoke about this narrative interpreted it, and some referenced the words of al-Nabigha in the legs of his she-camel as evidence:
"On hilltops, while they were four, * they knelt for a night halt and became eight."
The story of this effeminate person (mukhannath) has been narrated in full from the Hadith of Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas, and we have mentioned it in Al-Tamhid. In this hadith, there is a legal ruling that it is not permissible for any of the effeminate persons, who are those we call the "effeminate" (mukhannathin), to enter upon women, and they are not among those of whom Allah said: {Those who are not possessed of physical strength among men} (Quran 24:31). This characteristic is that of a foolish, simple-minded, impotent person who has no desire in women and is unaware of anything concerning their flaws or virtues. So, anyone with such characteristics may enter upon people without cause because the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) suspected that Heyt, the effeminate person (mukhannath), was one who had these qualities. When he heard from him what he heard, he commanded that he not enter upon women and then expelled him from the city, banishing him from it. This is a principle for anyone who is disturbed by someone and cannot guard against them, to be removed to a place where they will be safe from harm. Abu Umar said: "Some narrators have mistakenly transcribed the name of the daughter of Ghaylan as 'Badiyah,' but the correct form is 'Badiyah' with a 'b' and a 'y,' taken from 'bada yabdu,' meaning 'to appear,' as if she were named 'the Appearing One.'" This is the meaning of what al-Zubayr and others mentioned. And Allah is the Grantor of success.

- "If Allah opens Ta'if for you": meaning its fortress (I have indicated this to you), and in the narration of al-Bukhari and Muslim: "I will guide you to a woman who will receive you with four and turn away with eight," meaning four pouches and eight pouches, which means that she has four pouches to receive you with from every direction, two from each, and each one has two ends. So when she turns away, the ends become eight. "(Drive them out)" meaning the effeminate men "(from your homes)" al-Qari said: The address in the masculine plural is in a manner of honoring the Mothers of the Believers. Abu Dawood said: This is an explanation of the statement, "who will receive you with four," etc. "(She had four pouches)" — the plural of "pouch" with a dhammah (ـُ) is what is folded or tucked, and it is formed from the flesh of the abdomen in a plumpness. al-Mundhiri said: al-Bukhari and Muslim, al-Nasa'i, and Ibn Majah narrated this, and the name of the effeminate man was Heit, pronounced with a kasrah (ـِ) on the hā' (ه) and a sukoon (ـْ) on the yā' (ي), the last letter, followed by a tā' (ت), the third letter. Thus, al-Bukhari and others mentioned it. Some said his name was Mata'i, while others claimed it was Hanb, with a hā' (ه) followed by a nun (ن) and a sukoon, and a single bā' (ب). Some mentioned that Heit, Hanb, and Mata'i were names of three effeminate men who were in the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) and they were not suspected of committing the major immorality but rather their femininity and softness was in their speech, and they wore henna on their hands and feet like women's henna, and their behavior was playful like that of women. The woman is described as a "Badiyyah" with a single bā' (ب) and a dāl (د) that is not dotted after the alif (ا), followed by a yā' (ي) as the last letter in the open form, and a tā' (ت) of femininity, and some said "Bādinnah," with a nun (ن) after the dāl (د) that is not dotted, and it is more commonly known in the form with a yā' (ي). Her father was Ghaylan ibn Salmah al-Thaqafi, who accepted Islam and had ten wives under him.

- .... And in al-Aghani: It is stated that Heita is pronounced with a kasra (i.e., a vowel mark indicating a short 'i' sound) on the letter ha, and it is said to be pronounced with a fatah (i.e., a vowel mark indicating a short 'a' sound) and a sukun (i.e., no vowel sound) on the following t, followed by a thuna (a letter resembling 'a') after that, and that al-Heita is a foolish, effeminate person. He said to Abdullah ibn Umayyah: "If Allah grants you victory over Ta'if, ask the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) about Badiyah bint Ghilan, for she is a singing, torch-bearing woman with large eyes. If she speaks, she will sing, meaning with a nasal tone, and if she stands, she will move in a feminine manner, her cheeks flushed, her hips relaxed, her thighs bare, her calves unbound, as if she were a branch of a palm tree," and in another wording, "as if she were reeds that had been pruned," "moving with four limbs and swaying with eight," and there was something hidden between her thighs, resembling a covered vessel. When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) heard his words, he said: "You have keenly observed, O enemy of Allah," and then he expelled him from the city to the hami, saying: "Do not let him enter any of your women." It was said to him (peace be upon him and his holy progeny): "He will die of hunger," so he allowed him to enter the city every Friday to ask the people."
It is also said that he (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) expelled both Ma'ti and Heita to the hami, and they complained of need, so he permitted them to descend every Friday to ask the people and then return to their place. When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) died, they entered the city, and Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) expelled them. When he died, they entered the city, and Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) expelled them, and when he died, they entered.
- .... And there were three effeminate individuals during his time (peace be upon him and his holy progeny): Heita, Ma'ti, and Hidhm. They were called this because there was a softness in their speech, and they would dye their hair with henna like women's adornment, not that they engaged in the major indecency. It is possible that both Ma'ti and Heita were with him (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) in that campaign and heard from him what was previously mentioned about them. This possibility is supported by the fact that he expelled them. In Sahih al-Bukhari, it is mentioned that the one who spoke to Abdullah, as stated earlier, was Heita. It is possible that the one who was with him (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) was one of them, and the repetition of mentioning what was previously stated and naming it after the other was a mix-up by some narrators, so it should be considered carefully.

Al-Maydani al-Nisayburi - Majma' al-Amthal - Chapter Seven: Regarding Which the Beginning is Khaa' - 1337: Akhnath min Hīt
Volume: (1) - Page Number: (249)
[The text is lengthy, so only the relevant excerpt is provided here]
1337 - Akhnath min Hīt: This proverb was one of the proverbs of the people of the city that was in circulation during the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny). At that time, there were three effeminate individuals in the city: Hīt, Harm, and Mati'. The proverb spread among them regarding Hīt. The effeminate individuals would enter upon women and not be veiled, so Hīt would enter upon the wives of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) whenever he wished. One day, he entered the house of Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her), and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) was with her. He approached the brother of Umm Salamah, Abdullah ibn Abi Umayyah, saying: "If Allah grants you victory over al-Ta'if, ask to be given in spoils Badiyah, the daughter of Ghilan ibn Salamah ibn Mu'tab al-Thaqafiyyah, for she is a tempting, swaying, graceful, and bright-eyed young woman. Half of her face is marked with a balance of beauty, and she has a symmetry in charm. If she stands, she sways; if she sits, she feigns innocence; and if she speaks, she sings. The tallest part of her is her slender frame, and the lowest is her curvy figure. When she approaches, she comes with four, and when she turns away, she departs with eight, with a mouth like a chrysanthemum and something between her thighs like an overturned cup," as Qays ibn al-Khateem said:

"She flirts with her eyes while carefree, as if a blush had spilled across her face,
Amidst the diverse women, her form is crafted with intention, neither rough nor clumsy."

Hearing this, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said to him: "What ails you? May Allah confound you! I did not think you were one of those who have no need for men," and for this reason, I did not veal you from my wives. Then he commanded him to go to Khakh, and he did so. Some of the companions later entered upon the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) after this incident and said: "Will you grant me permission, O Messenger of Allah, to follow him and strike his neck?" He replied: "No, we have been commanded not to kill those who pray." News of this reached the effeminate individual, and he said: "That is one of the nazdireen," meaning one of those who distort the truth. Hīt remained in Khakh until the days of Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him).

- As for the name Hīt, there is a difference of opinion regarding it. Some say it is Henb with a nun and a ba. Ibn al-A'rabi said: "Al-Henb is one who is exceedingly foolish," and with this, the man was named Henb. Al-Layth said: "The people of hadith have misinterpreted it, saying Hīt, whereas it is actually Henb." Al-Azhari said: "Al-Shafi'i, may Allah have mercy on him, and others narrated it as Hīt - with a ta - and I think this is correct." This is their discourse, and I have related it accurately, and Allah knows best.

431 - Akhnath from Hiit: He was a eunuch who used to enter upon the wives of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) . When he said to the brother of Umm Salamah: "If Allah grants you victory over Ṭa'if, ask to be given in booty Bāditah bint Ghaylān ibn Salamah al-Thaqafiyyah, for she is a delicate, willowy, slender-eyed woman. Half of her face is illuminated in the qasāmah, and she is proportionate in her attractiveness. If she stands, she will sway; if she sits, she will look after a child; and if she speaks, she will sing. The tallest part of her is her rod, and the lowest is a mound. When she approaches, she comes with four, and when she turns away, she departs with eight, with a mouth like a chrysanthemum and something between her thighs like an overturned basin. She is just as Qays ibn al-Khāṭīm (al-Munsarih) said:
Her eyes drown while she is oblivious, as if her face were veiled in a faint.
Amid the sullen women, her form is aimed at, neither a roughness nor a flaw.

He (the Prophet) said, peace be upon him and his holy progeny: "I did not think you were one of those who lack maturity among men." Then he banished him to Khākh, a place. Some of the companions said: "May I have your permission to strike his neck?" He replied: "No, we were commanded not to kill those who pray." When the news reached the eunuch, he said: "He is merely one of the rarities, that is, one of those who burn their bread."

- .... Ibn al-A'rabi said: Hayt means a depression in the ground. He said it is also called al-Hawatah. Some people said it was named Hayt because it is in a hollow in the earth, with the waw changing to a ya due to the broken hā. What was mentioned in the hadith is that the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) expelled two effeminate men: one was Hayt and the other Mati', but it is actually Henb, and the narrators misrepresented it. Al-Azhari said: Al-Shafi'i and others narrated it as Hayt and I think this is correct.

- .... And the denial of the effeminate is that he is not settled in the cities of the Muslims. The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) commanded the banishment of Heet and Mata', two effeminate ones who were in Medina. Some said that his name was Hanb with a nuun, but he was called Hemba due to his foolishness. To "deny" from him means to disavow him, and to deny something (nafaa) is to reject it.
