7598 - Mata', al-Waqidi mentioned that he was the client (mawla) of Fakhita bint Amr ibn Ayidh ibn Imran ibn Makhzum and that he and Hiyat were in the houses of the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny). He said to Aisha when he heard her asking for a woman to propose to her on behalf of Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Bakr, her brother: "You should go to so-and-so, for she will approach with four (things) and turn away with eight." The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) heard him and banished him to the hammam, and he remained in that state until the caliphate of Umar. I say, and Ibn Ishaq mentioned in al-Maghazi from Muhammad ibn Ibrahim al-Tamimi that he was the one who said about the daughter of Ghaylan: "She will approach with four (things) and turn away with eight." It is known that the one who said that was Hiyat, and it is in Sahih al-Bukhari from Ibn Jurayj, as will be mentioned in his translation. Ibn Wahb mentioned in his Jaami' from al-Harith ibn Abd al-Rahman, from Ibn Abi Dhuhb, from Abu Salamah ibn Abd al-Rahman, that there were two effeminate men during the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), one of whom was called Hiyat and the other Mata'ah. Mata'ah died, but Hiyat remained after him. Ibn Wahb said, and he narrated to me from one who heard Abu Ma' Sher say that the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) ordered him to be struck, and he mentioned the hadith, and it will be included in the translation of Hiyat.

9040 - .... Ibn Abi Shaiba and Ahmad ibn Ibrahim al-Dawrqi narrated in their Musnads from the narration of Muhammad ibn Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Layla, from Abd al-Karim, from Mujahid, from Amir ibn Saad ibn Malik, from his father, that he delivered a sermon to a woman in Mecca and said: "Who can tell me about her?" A man, an eunuch, named Hayt, replied: "I can describe her to you. When she comes, she will come walking on two legs, and when she goes, she will leave walking on four." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "I see nothing but denial, and I think he knows nothing about women." He used to enter upon Sawdah, and he forbade her from entering upon him. However, when he came to Medina, he exiled her, and it was thus until the time of Umar's leadership, where he persisted. It was permissible for him to enter Medina and beg on Fridays. Ibn Wahb mentioned in his Jam'ah that someone heard Abu Ma'shar say: "He was commanded by the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) to be exiled to a remote area near a mountain in Medina, at Dhi al-Hulayfah. Some companions interceded for him, saying, 'He will die of hunger,' so he was permitted to enter every Friday to seek food, then return to his place." He remained there until he died. A mention of his story had previously occurred in the biography of Mani' as part of his translation. Abu Ubayd al-Bakri said in his Sharh Umalai al-Qali: "There were three eunuchs in Medina who could enter among women without being obscured: Hayt, Hadm, and Mani'."

Al-Shawkani - Nail al-Awtar Sharh Muntaka al-Akhbar - Book of Marriage - Chapter on Those Not Among the Possessors of Sexual Prowess
Volume: (6) - Page Number: (138) - Footnote: 1
[The text is lengthy, so only the relevant excerpt is provided here]
- His statement: (effeminate) with both an open and a closed nun, the open being more well-known, refers to one who becomes submissive in his speech, walks with a limp, and can be seen moving in a feminine manner, like women. This may be a natural state or an affected one from the debauched. For those who have this as a natural condition, the predominant state is that he has no sexual desire for women. Therefore, the wives of the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) considered this effeminate person to be among those not possessing sexual prowess and would not veil him unless he exhibited behavior similar to what was mentioned in this statement. There is some dispute regarding his name. The judge (al-Qadi) said: The more common name is Hiyet, pronounced with a broken 'h' followed by a silent 't,' and then a 'v.' Others said his name was more accurately Hanb, with a 'n' and a fixed 'b,' as stated by Ibn Darstwayh, who also mentioned that other names were mere errors and that he was the fool known by this name. Others say his name was Maatid, with a 't' above, a freedman of Wakhidah al-Makhzumiyah, the daughter of Amr ibn A'id.
- His statement: These refers to all effeminate individuals. Al-Bayhaqi narrated that there were three effeminate men during the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny): Maatid, Hadim, and Hiyet.

Volume: (1) - Page Number: (249)
[The text is lengthy, so only the relevant excerpt is provided here]
1337 - Akhnath from Hīt: This proverb is one of the proverbs of the people of the city. It was in circulation during the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), and at that time, there were three effeminate individuals in the city: Hīt, Harum, and Mātik. The proverb spread among them because of Hīt, and the effeminate individuals would enter upon women without being veiled. Thus, Hīt would enter upon the wives of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) whenever he wished. One day, he entered the house of Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her), and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) was with her....

Volume: (8) - Page Number: (390)
16983 - Abu al-Husayn Ibn Bishran narrated to us in Baghdad, saying: Al-Husayn Ibn Safwan narrated to us, saying: Abdullah Ibn Abi Dunya narrated to us, from al-Hasan Ibn Hammad al-Dabi, from Abda, from Muhammad Ibn Ishaq, from Yazid from Musa Ibn Abd al-Rahman Ibn Ayash Ibn Abi Rubi'a, who said: During the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), there were three effeminate men: Matia, Hidm, and Hayt. Matia was the son of Fakhta, the daughter of Amr Ibn Aidh, the maternal aunt of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny). He would frequent the houses of the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) and enter upon them until, when the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) besieged Ta'if, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) heard him saying to Khalid Ibn al-Walid: "If you conquer Ta'if tomorrow, do not let Badiya, the daughter of Ghailan, escape from you, for she will approach with four and turn away with eight." The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "I do not see this vile one being aware of this. He will not enter upon you again after this with his women." Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) set out, returning, until he was at Dhul-Hulayfa, and said: "Let him not enter the city." And the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) entered the city. He was spoken of, and it was said to him that he was a needy person who could not do without something. So the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) appointed him to enter and ask for something once every week, and then return to his home. He continued to be like this during the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), Abu Bakr, and during the time of Umar (may Allah be pleased with them). The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) sent his two companions with him, Hidm and the other, Hayt.

16776 - And the second expulsion: it is reported that he was sent from Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) in a marfu' manner: that he expelled two effeminate individuals who were in Medina, one of whom was called Hayt and the other Mata'a. It is preserved in reports regarding one of them that he expelled him to al-Himay and that there was life in that household during the lifetime of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), the life of Abu Bakr, and the life of Umar. He complained of the confinement, so some of the Imams permitted him to enter the city on a Friday to shop for a day and then return.

Al-Suyuti - Al-DiBagh 'ala Sahih Muslim ibn al-Hajjaj - 2180
Volume: (5) - Page Number: (197)
2180 - That there was a mukhannath, with the noun either pronounced with a kasrah (ّ ) or a fatḥah ( َ ), who was one that resembled women in his demeanor, speech, and movements, both in appearance and name. His name was Heit, pronounced with a kasrah on the initial letter and a pair of taa marbūtahs ( ة ) signifying a feminine ending, one still, and the other over, or it was said to be Hanb, with a nun and a single ha, or it was said to be Mati', with the taa marbūtah. He was a freedman of Fakhita al-Makhzumiyya, daughter of Ali ibn Ghilan. Her name was Badia, although it was said to be Badinah. She could bend forward with four curves and arch backward with eight, as if from the bulges. Al-Nawawi (14/163) stated: Abu Ubayd and other scholars said that this meant she had four curves with which she could lean from every direction, making two from each, and each of these would have two ends. Thus, when she arched backward, the ends would become eight. It is said that they recited the following verse of poetry by Ka'b ibn Zuhayr in her presence: "She tilted four of them on the back of four, so they are eight with their doubled forms." This indicates that these were not to be allowed to approach, referring to all mukhannaths.

Volume: (5) - Page Number: (3)

4551 - Maatic: Ja'far also mentioned him and narrated with his chain from Ibn Ishaq, from Muhammad ibn Ibrahim ibn al-Harith al-Taimi, who said: "He was with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) in the Battle of Ta'if, a freedman of his maternal aunt, Wukhtah bint Amr ibn A'idh ibn Makhzum, a eunuch named Maatic who would enter upon the women of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) and be in his homes, without the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) thinking he would notice anything regarding women that men would notice, nor seeing any desire in that." He heard him say to Khalid ibn al-Walid al-Makhzumi: "O Khalid, if the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) conquers Ta'if, you must not let Badiyah, the daughter of Ghailan ibn Salamah, escape from you, for she approaches with four and turns away with eight." When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) heard this from him, he said: "I do not see this vile one noticing what I hear him saying." Then he said to his wives: "Let not this one enter upon you." It is narrated that the eunuch said this to Abd Allah ibn Abi Umayyah, the brother of Umm Salamah. Muhammad ibn al-Munkadir and Safwan ibn Sulaym narrated that Abu Bakr expelled Maatic the eunuch to Fadak, and there were no Muslims there. Abu Musa reported this.

28 - Muslim ibn Ibrahim narrated to us, saying: Hisham narrated to us, saying: Yahya narrated to us, from Ikrimah from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: "The Prophet cursed the eunuchs among men and the women who imitated men." And he said, "Expel them from your homes," and "Expel so-and-so," and "Expel so-and-so." This is consistent with the chapter heading at the end of the hadith. Hisham is al-Dastawai, and Yahya is Ibn Abi Kathir. The hadith has been mentioned in the Book of Clothing and was narrated by Abu Dawood in the Book of Manners from Muslim ibn Ibrahim with the same wording. It was also narrated by al-Tirmidhi and al-Nasa'i. His statement about the women who imitate men refers to women who resemble men, making a show of masculinity. This is, in fact, the opposite of eunuchs, as they are those who resemble women. Regarding the statement "and expel so-and-so," al-Karamani said that they are both matters with the letter "t" dotted above and the letter "ayn" unheard, and "Heyt" with a kasha on the "h" and a sukun on the "y," the last letter, and with the letter "t" dotted above.

Chapter on What Has Been Narrated Regarding the Effeminate Among Men and Who Is Most Deserving of the Child
Volume: (7) - Page Number: (286/287)

- Abdullah ibn Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to me, saying: Muhammad ibn Ahmad narrated to me, saying: Yahya ibn Muhammad ibn Ziyad narrated to me, saying: Ahmad ibn Abd al-Jabbar narrated to me, saying: Yunus ibn Bakir narrated to me, from Hisham ibn Urwah, from his father, from Zaynab, the daughter of Umm Salamah, from Umm Salamah, who said: "I had an effeminate person (mukhannath) with me, and he said to my brother Abdullah: 'If Allah grants you victory over Ta'if tomorrow, I will direct you to the daughter of Ghilan, for she comes to you with four and turns away with eight.'" When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) heard his words, he said: "These ones should not be allowed to enter upon you." And with that, from Yunus ibn Bakir, from Ibn Ishaq, who said: "There was also with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) a freedman of his aunt, Fakhita, the daughter of Amr ibn Uday, an effeminate person (mukhannath) named Mati', who would enter upon the women of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) and be in his home, and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) did not think he would notice anything regarding women that men would notice, nor did he see him having any understanding in that matter." He heard him say to Khalid ibn al-Walid: "O Khalid, if the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) conquers Ta'if, do not let the Baduah, the daughter of Ghilan ibn Salamah, escape from you, for she comes with four and turns away with eight." When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) heard this from him, he said: "I do not think this wicked one is oblivious to what I am hearing." He then said to his wives: "Do not let them enter upon you," and he was barred from the houses of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny). Thus, Ibn Ishaq said regarding this effeminate person (mukhannath) that his name was Mati', and none mentioned it differently to my knowledge. Most, however, assert that his name was Heit. Habib mentioned it in this manner as well, from Malik. Ibn Uyaynah narrated it similarly, from Ibn Jurayj, that the name of that effeminate person (mukhannath) was Heith, and this is the view of al-Waqidi and Ibn al-Kalbi. Ibn Ishaq also said that there was with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) a freedman of his aunt, Fakhita, the daughter of Amr ibn Uday ibn Imran ibn Makhzum al-Makhzumi. Ibn al-Kalbi said that Heit the effeminate (mukhannath) was a freedman of Abdullah ibn Umayyah, the brother of Umm Salamah, and that Tuwis was also a freedman of Abdullah ibn Abi Umayyah.

Book of Etiquette - Chapter on Rulings Concerning Effeminate Men
Volume: (13) - Page Number: (188/189)

- "If Allah opens Ta'if for you": meaning its fortress (I indicated this to you), and in the narration of Bukhari and Muslim: "I will direct you to a woman who will approach you with four and turn away with eight," meaning four bulges and eight bulges, which signifies that she has four bulges with which she can engage from every direction, two on each side, and each one has two ends. Thus, when she turns away, the ends become eight. "(Drive them out)" meaning the effeminate men "(from your homes)." Al-Qari said: The address in the masculine plural is a show of respect to the Mothers of the Believers. Abu Dawud said: This is in explanation of the statement about her approaching with four, etc. (She had four bulges) is the plural of bulge, pronounced with a heavy emphasis, which refers to something that is folded and can be semi-formed from the flesh of the abdomen. Al-Mundhiri said: And it was narrated by Bukhari and Muslim, al-Nasa'i, and Ibn Majah. The name of the effeminate man was Heit, pronounced with a heavy h (hē), with a ya (y) that is not pronounced, and a ta (t) as the third letter, as mentioned by Bukhari and others. It was also said that his name was Mat'i, and some stated it was Hanb, with a h (h) followed by a nun (n), a non-pronounced letter, and a unified ba (b). Some mentioned that Heit, Hanb, and Mat'i were names of three effeminate men who were in the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), and they were not involved in (suspected) the major vice; rather, their femininity and their languid behavior in speech and their dyeing of hands and feet were like that of women, and their play was like that of women. The woman appeared with a unified ba (b), followed by an unmarked dal (d), and a ya (y) as the last letter, open and with a feminine ta (t). It was also said that she was a woman with a nun (n) after the dal (d), and the commonly known form is with a ya (y), and her father was Ghaylan ibn Salamah al-Thaqafi, who accepted Islam and had ten wives.

And there were three effeminate men during his time (peace be upon him): Heit, Mat'i, and Hithm, and they were called this because there was a softness in their speech, and they would dye their hair with henna like women's adornment, but it was not that they engaged in the major indecency. It is possible that both Mat'i and Heit were with him (peace be upon him) in that expedition, and they heard from him what was mentioned earlier. This possibility is supported by the fact that he expelled them, and in Sahih al-Bukhari, it is stated that the one who spoke to Abdullah as mentioned earlier was Heit. It is possible that the one who was with him (peace be upon him) was either one of them, and his mentioning of what was stated earlier and naming them with the other’s name was a mix-up by some narrators, so this should be considered carefully.

- .... And in Al-Imtā' : There was with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) a freedman of his aunt, his mother's sister, named Matta, and he would enter his (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) houses because he (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) saw that he would not notice anything concerning women or have any inclination towards them. He (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) heard him (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) saying to Khalid ibn al-Walid, and it is said to Abdullah, the brother of Umm Salamah: "If the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) opens Ta'if tomorrow, you should go to Badiah, daughter of Ghaylan, for she and her sister have both embraced Islam." Badiah is spelled with a yāʾ under the lām, not a nūn. "She will come with four and manage with eight. When she stands, she will bend; when she sits, she will spread; and when she speaks, she will sing. Between her legs, there is something like a covered vessel, and then she will flee, looking like a chrysanthemum." And he (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "I do not see this wicked one noticing what I hear." In another narration, it is reported that he (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said to him: "May Allah curse you! You have gazed intently. I did not think this wicked one knew anything about women."
- And in Al-Aghānī: "Heit," with a broken hāʾ, and it is said with an open one, followed by a sukūn on the tḥāʾ and then a thānīyah. Al-Heit is the foolish and effeminate one. He said to Abdullah ibn Umayyah: "If Allah opens Ta'if for you, ask the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) about Badiah, daughter of Ghaylan, for she is a robust, radiant, and tall woman. If she speaks, she will sing," meaning with a nasal tone. "When she stands, she will sway, her cheeks flushed, her breasts drooping, her thighs firm, and her calves flowing, like a slender stalk." In another version, "like a branch that has been pruned, she will come with four and manage with eight, and between her thighs, there is something concealed, like a covered vessel." When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) heard his words, he said: "You have scrutinized closely, O enemy of Allah," and then he expelled him from the city to Al-Himā, saying: "Do not enter any of your women." It was said to him (peace be upon him and his holy progeny): "He will die of hunger," so he (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) allowed him to enter the city every Friday to ask people. It is said that he (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) expelled both Matta and Heit to Al-Himā, and they complained of their need.
- He allowed them to settle every Friday to ask people and then return to their place. When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) passed away, they entered the city, and Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) expelled them. When he died, they entered the city, and Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) expelled them. When he died, they entered again.
- There were three effeminate men in his (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) time: Heit, Matta, and Hatham. They were called this because there was a softness in their speech, and they used to dye their hair with henna like women's adornments, not that they committed the greatest indecency. It is possible that both Matta and Heit were with him (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) in that expedition and heard from him (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) what was mentioned earlier. This possibility is supported by the fact that he expelled them. In Sahih Bukhari, it is mentioned that the one speaking to Abdullah, as previously stated, is Heit. It is also possible that the one who was with him (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) was one of them, and he repeatedly mentioned what was mentioned earlier, naming them one with the name of the other, which could be a mix-up by some narrators, so it should be considered carefully.
