And Ṭuwīs: The name of a man who was exemplified as a model of ill omen. He said: And I see it to be a diminutive of Ṭāwūs, made with an affectionate tone.
And their saying: More ill-omened than Ṭuwīs refers to a eunuch who was in Medina. He said: O people of Medina, expect the emergence of the Dajjal as long as I am among you. But when I die, you will be safe, for I was born on the night he died, and weaned on the day Abū Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) died, reached puberty on the day ʿUmar (may Allah be pleased with him) was killed, married on the day ʿUthmān (may Allah be pleased with him) was killed, and had a child on the day ʾAlī (may Allah be pleased with him) was killed.
His name was Ṭāwūs, but when he became effeminate, it was changed to Ṭuwīs. He called himself ʿAbd al-Naʿīm and said to himself: I am ʿAbd al-Naʿīm; I am Ṭāwūs al-Jahīm ....
