Al-Maydani al-Nisayburi - Majma' al-Amthal - Chapter Seven: The First Letter is Khah - 1338: More effeminate than a Dallal
Volume: (1) - Page Number: (251)
[The text is lengthy, so only the relevant excerpt is provided here]
1338 - More effeminate than a Dallal: He was also one of the effeminate men of the city, named Nafidh, with the kunya (nickname) Abu Yazid. He was one of those castrated by Ibn Hazm al-Ansari, the prince of the city, during the reign of Sulayman ibn Abd al-Malik. This was because he ordered Ibn Hazm, his agent, to take an account of the effeminate men of the city. The scribe's pen splintered, and a dot fell on the tip of the letter ha, turning it into a khah. When the letter reached the city, Ibn Hazm handed it to his scribe, who read it aloud: "Take account of the effeminate ones." The prince replied, "Perhaps he meant to account for them with an 'h'." The scribe said, "There is a dot on the 'h' like a date," and it is narrated "like Suhail." So the prince proceeded to summon them and then castrate them, among whom were Tawis, Dallal, Nasim al-Sehr, Numat al-Duha, Bard al-Fu'ad, and Dhil al-Shajar. Each of them said a word during their castration that became associated with them. Tawis said, "This is nothing but a circumcision being repeated upon us." Dallal said, "Rather, this is the greatest circumcision." Nasim al-Sehr replied, "With castration, I have truly become effeminate." Numat al-Duha stated, "Rather, we have truly become women." Bard al-Fu'ad remarked, "We are relieved from carrying the channel of urine," and Dhil al-Shajar said, "What use is there for a weapon not in use...."
